Letter from M. C. (Maud) Fentress to her family regarding the loss of a package of letters that were being brought to her by Captain Hawood and her worries because she has not heard from her son David. Her area has not experience raids for several months, but she expects that to change. She writes about the taking of "Savanah" (Savannah, Georgia). She says that the former slaves continue to leave to join up with the Yankees. She sends an update on family and friends, where they are, what they are doing and their health.

Oral History Interview with Boyd K. Miller, January 21, 2003

Interview with Boyd K. Miller, a draftsman and pilot during World War II. He discusses being drafted out of college and working as an artist and draftsman. Since he studied art in college, he worked on diagrams and charts. He then transferred to the Air Corps to become a pilot and trained in Pennsylvania, Mississippi, Alabama, New York, Georgia, Florida and Texas.

Unpublished newspaper copy for an article to be headlined "Black Civic Groups Wants [sic] to Honor Veteran Journalist" about the efforts of the Jackson, Mississippi chapter of The Links, Inc. to raise funds to assist Hazel Brannon Smith. Smith was a publisher and journalist who won a Pulitzer Prize for her editorials in support of the civil rights movement, a stance which resulted in her ostracism from local white society and her newspaper's eventual bankruptcy. Aaronetta Pierce (referred to here as A. M. Pierce) passed this unpublished copy of the article on to Margaret Winn, president of the San Antonio chapter. Includes handwritten notes.
