Another purpose was to analyze these effects and determine implications for coaches, physical educators, physical therapists, and others interested in determining the optimum combination of the three variables for increasing muscular strength.

The major purposes of this study are described as follows: (1) to determine if education majors, classified according to grade-level preference (elementary), subject-matter concentration (secondary), and sequential stage in the teacher education program, differ significantly in certain teaching-related personal and social characteristics; (2) to determine if estimates of certain teaching-related personal and social characteristics of education majors, classified according to grade-level preference (elementary) and subject-matter concentration (secondary) tend to form intercorrelated families of characteristics; (3) to determine if elementary and secondary education students at progressive stages in the teacher education sequence tend to become more or less like experienced teachers comprising the Basic Analysis Sample of the Teacher Characteristics Study.

The purpose of the present study was to investigate the effects of classroom lectures regarding personality theory on the incongruencies of one's self concept. Relying heavily upon the individual's drive toward integration, health, and self-actualization as summarized in the preceding section, as it is contended that, while some information will be rejected because of one's tendency to maintain and preserve established consistencies within himself, the individual's inherent motivation toward personal growth will result in the assimilation of many of these basic psychological beliefs into his own personality structure.

In view of previous research and realizing the importance of related study on inventive and achievement, the following hypothesis was proposed: Inducement of motivation between pre-and post-administrations of Form A of the Peabody Picture Vocabulary Test would result in significantly greater magnitude of change in scores for the experimental group of Negro children than for the control group.

Susceptibility to the Mueller-Lyer Illusion as a Function of Conflicts in Self Concept and the Characteristics of the Stimulus

While various studies have related susceptibility to the Mueller-Lyer illusion to mental health, to developmental maturity, and to self-differentiation, there have been no studies in which susceptibility to the illusion has been related to a wide spectrum of self-concept dimensions. It is one of the purposes of the present study to analyze susceptibility to the Mueller-Lyer illusion as a function of errors in self-perception. To the extent that an individual suffers conflicts with regard to his self-concept, in any of its significant dimensions, it is expected that he will suffer a greater susceptibility to the illusion.

The Comparative Effectiveness of Conventional and Programed Instructional Procedures in Teaching Fundamentals of Music

The purpose of this study was to investigate the comparative effectiveness of three out-of-class procedures designed to augment a conventional classroom instructional method in a course in the fundamentals of music for elementary education students. The procedures examined were (a) conventional out-of-class study assignments; (b) out-of-class individual use of a programed textbook; and (c) out-of- class individual use of a teaching machine program. This study was concerned with measures of achievement in fundamentals of music as taught to elementary education students at North Texas State University, Denton, Texas, during the 1963-1964 school year. The measures of achievement in music were limited to the pre-test of fundamentals of music and to the post test, interim test, and retention test of fundamentals of music.

Use of the Reve Eveille Dirige (Guided Daydream) for Selection of Vocation and College Major

The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of the guided daydream technique as a method for selection of a vocation and major area of study by college students seeking vocational counseling. Choices made by each student were rated by three judges relative to their degree of correspondence with the results of a specific battery of vocational tests which that student had taken. The ratings of these students' choices were compared with similar ratings made by the same judges on a control group of students who had also made choices of vocation and college major but had not participated in the guided daydream session.

There are seven schools in the United States and Canada that offer a training program for students qualified in art and the biological sciences to meet the visual communication requirements in medical education and research. A survey of each of these schools in relation to the medical illustration curriculum of North Texas State University will give a broader picture of the educational requirements, nature of work, qualifications of the candidate, and the outlines of the curricula in this field. From this survey a guidance program will be determined to prepare toe undergraduate student for admission to medical school. This investigation of each training program will provide a better understanding of the variances of the medical schools which have departments of art as applied to medicine.
