To All to Whom These Presents Shall Come, Greeting: Know Ye, That we, the Professors of the Law School of Cumberland University, having examined Thos. M. Willis, touching his knowledge of the Law, and being satisfied with his attainments; and further, having before us the proofs required by Statue, that he is a man of good moral character and twenty-one years of age; Now, therefore, we, by the authority in us vested, do grant the said Thos. M. Willis, License to Practise Law in all the Courts of the State of Tennessee. Given under our hands, and the Soul of the University, at Lebanon, this 18th day of January 1883." Thomas Middlebrook Willis returned to Texas and opened his practice of law in Abilene, TX.

He is wearing a dark three piece suit, large dark print tie and a white collared shirt. His dark hair is parted on the left side. The next gentleman is standing to the right of the seated man. Wreck of the Don Milo

Photograph of the Lavaca River Bridge after the wreck of the San Antonio and Aransas Pass "Don Milo" freight train. There are pieces of the wreck still in the water, and there are men on what is left of the bridge, on the bank, and in the water. A train engine is on the tracks just before the bridge. There are cows in the background. According to the accompanying article, the wreck happened on Saturday, January 5, 1890 at 5:30 P.M. after heavy rainfall, and three people were killed. On the back is written "Property of Lillie Ahrens Hallettsville, Texas" and there is an explanation of the photograph.
