Check from First National Bank of Denton, Texas to the Denton County News in the amount of four dollars. The check is dated May 4, 1895. A note below the amount says, "fine account (stationary)." The check is signed by Jagoe & Ponder.

This card contains advertisements for early Denton commerce. The advertisements include banks, saloons, grocers, drug stores, hardware stores, galleries, hotels, restaurants, and feed stores. We believe the card was created sometime in the year of 1895 based on the advertisement for The Denton Hotel which said it was the successor to Pierce House. We found no other newspaper advertisements for Pierce House after February of 1895.

A large group of unidentified people are at the Denton County Jail awaiting the hanging of J. Q. A. Crews. Crews was the last person to be hanged in Denton County.

Head-and-shoulders portrait of Louisa Owsley in a light-colored blouse and dark hat. On the back of the photo is handwritten: "Dr. Louisa Owsley, Mother of A. C. Owsley, Sr., Grandmother of Clark, Lou, Stella, Eunice, Henry, Charlotte & Alvin. Louisa Owsley came here from Missouri in 1872 from Missouri with her husband, Dr. Henry Owsley, an allopath. She died in 1908." From newspaper articles, we have found that Louisa Owsley was born in Caldwell County, Kentucky in 1830 and died in Denton County in 1904. She was a midwife and homeopathic doctor.
