This is a study and evaluation of certain practices in the financial administration of industrial arts programs operating in accredited four-year class "A" high schools in Texas. The study seeks to answer the following questions: 1. Are industrial arts teachers properly prepared to administer the financial transactions involved in an industrial arts program? 2. Is there a need for establishing standard practices and principles to be used in administering industrial arts finance? 3. Is there a danger of criticism of the industrial arts departments and the teachers, because of inefficiency in the administration of shop finance? 4. Are practices now in use basically sound? 5. Are adequate records being kept? 7. What steps should be taken to eliminate the objectional practices now in use and to initiate the more desirable ones?

The purpose of this study was to investigate the problem of dropouts or withdrawals among the pupils of the secondary schools of Port Arthur, Texas. It was hoped that some significant information could be compiled as to the reasons why such students in this particular city leave school before high-school graduation, and that academic, environmental, and personal factors might be identified in their relationship to the causation of dropouts or withdrawals.

This study attempts to compare the thinking abilities of homemaking girls with the thinking abilities of girls not taking homemaking. By emphasizing the problem-solving method in the teaching of an experimental unit, it proposes to determine whether homemaking students show greater gains in thinking ability at the end of the school year than non-homemaking students. The investigator proposes to find out if the student taught by techniques of problem-solving forms thinking habits superior to habits formed by those students who have not been taught by this method as extensively as homemaking students.

It is the purpose of this thesis to consider the growth and urbanization of the Texas population since 1880, with primary emphasis on changes which took place during the decade from 1940-1950. The problem involved, therefore, in the second part of this study is to determine the amount of urbanization which took place in Texas during the 1940-1950 decade, to determine the variations among the several regions and "size groups" of cities, and to describe some of the factors related to such increases and variations.

The problem involved in this study is an investigation of (1) the part played by the non-professional staff of a school in the development of a favorable public relations program, and (2) the needed training and qualifications for effective performance of the duties of non-professional personnel in this important phase of the public school program.

"The purpose of this study is to find what information is available from secondary sources on retail trade areas and to assemble and analyze it so that the information will be of value to those interested in the economy of the area...the following general conclusions are drawn: 1. The Denton retail trade area is primarily agricultual. Indicators of this fact are so many and so definite that there is little doubt but that agriculture and the rural population of the area will affect, to a considerable extent all business activity. 2. In 1947, the Denton retail trade area was not highly industrialized. The trading center is not centrally located within the state of Texas, but several markets are a few miles away. A good supply of labor is available within the area. With the present trend toward decentralization of industry, these facts point toward an expansion of manufacturing in the trade area. 3. In 1948, retailing in the trade center and in the area as a whole indicates a strong retail trade center. 4. The purpose of this investigation is to make a comparative study of compiled data obtained from the results of three standardized tests that were given to six classes of pupils enrolled in seventh-grade arithmetic and to determine, within the limits established for this study, the relative effectiveness of each of the two teaching methods employed: traditional and experience.

The present study is an attempt to obtain, from two groups of students, useful facts with which to evaluate the most effective method of presenting educational materials to junior-high-school students. The study is an attempt to measure and evaluate the achievement made in social studies, reading comprehension, and vocabulary in 1949 and 1950. The following questions form the basis for the present study: What method is best for the purpose of presenting materials to a class? Which method helps to solve the problem of the student most effectively? By which method is greater achievement made? If the two methods prove of equal value, then how much achievement may be attributed to the use of each method?

This problem is an analytical study of the needs and interests of the Merkel Community to determine the contents to be used in formulating a course of study in electricity for the secondary school, if it is found it meets with the needs and desires of the community.

In this study the public-school buildings of Denton are examined for evidences of modern architectural design. Chapter I serves as an introduction. Chapter II presents a history of the Denton Public Schools. Chapter III presents standards for evaluating modern school architecture. Features of existing school buildings, built earlier than 1964, which, in character, exemplify modern architectural design are described in Chapter IV. The three school buildings built since 1946 and the one under construction are described in detail and evaluated according to the standards given. Representative photostatic reproduction and photographs illustrate the text. In Chapter V a summary of the study is given and conclusions are presented.

The problem of this thesis is to determine just what part the museum is playing in the cultural development of Texas. This study presents a detailed investigation of the exhibitions offered by four of Texas' major art museums for the period from 1940-1950. Each of the museums will be discussed separately and then compared so that an over-all picture can be achieved.

The purpose of this study was (1) to investigate the changes in sociometric status that resulted when first grade children were taught some art or craft that they could teach to others in their class, (2) to note concomitant behavior changes as reported by their teachers and as noted by their experimenter, and (3) to compare the distribution and increase of decrease of votes received, votes given and mutual attractions in experimental groups with a control group.

The problem of this study was to demonstrate the effectiveness of certain recommended procedures for the improvement of reading skills in one fourth grade and one fifth grade class in the Jacksboro Elementary School. It is the purpose of this paper to present the historical record of Negro service on grand and petit juries in the United States, as that record is revealed by decisions of both state and federal courts; particularly the decisions of the United States Supreme Court. It is the desire of this treatise that such record shall be presented fairly. Finally, it is the aim of this document to present this historical record of cases in such a manner as to allow the prediction of certain potential developments visible in the course of justice. This then is a presentation of the record of the systematic exclusion of the Negro race in the matter of service on grand and petit juries in the United States, and with especial attention to the State of Texas.

The problem presented in this study is to determine if any differences exist in the sociometric standing and the scholastic achievement between children from broken homes and children from unbroken homes. The purpose of the study is to make a comparison of the sociometric standing and scholastic achievement of two selected groups of pupils to determine if differences exist and to what extent they exist.

"The organized woman's club movement spread into the State of Texas. Beginning as associations for self-culture and intellectual development, the clubs were soon laying the foundation for better conditions of living in their communities. Since Texas was largely in the pioneer stage of development with widely separated communities, the women's clubs in small centers became the nucleii for civic improvements. One of these small centers was the town of Gainesville, Texas, with a population of about 6,000 in the year 1893. That year the first women's club in the town was organized and named the Gainesville XLI Club.
