Picture Hat

Picture hat of straw. The domed crown is of natural-colored straw, ringed at the base with a line of artificial daisies with white petals and yellow centers, affixed to a band of off-white grosgrain ribbon. The broad oval straw brim is set off-center, and edged underneath with a double line of daisies around most of the brim, and a single line of daisies at back. The crown is edged inside with an inner hatband of white grosgrain ribbon. Label sewn to inner hatband: "Henrys / Dallas". Henrys has been identified alternately as maker or retailer.

Cloche

Cloche hat of medium brown coiled and plaited fibers. The high crown is crafted of spiraling band of plaited and coiled brown yarn(?)and incorporates looped sections, with iridescent flat ribbon wrapped around elements of the band. There is a horizontal "tuck" at back of hat, and a slight "visor" effect at front. The hat is unlined. Retailer's label sewn inside crown: "Made in France for / Neiman-Marcus". While in the style of a 1920's/1930's cloche, the materials, label, and construction date this piece to the 1960's.

The crown is draped/pleated horizontally in a chiffon burnout velvet with printed abstract designs burnt orange, yellow, and blue. Lined in a brocaded blue and sparkly fabric. Pillbox Hat

Pillbox hat of tan fur. Low circular crown covered in light tan fur, likely mink. Lined in pink fabric with band of blue fabric inside lower edge, overlaid with gold rickrack band. Toque

Toque of burnt ocher/light brown wool(?). The cylindrical crown is higher in front, with sides slanting down to back. The top of the crown is domed, but slightly sunken, and ornamented with top-stitching lines radiating from the back center of the top. The sides of the crown have similar horizontal top-stitching. The hat has a dark brown leather band at lower edge, almost a tiny visor in front, which extends inside the sides of crown and emerges in back to form a bow. The hat is lined in medium brown satin, and has an inner brown grosgrain ribbon hatband.. Retailer's label: "Neiman-Marcus / Salon"

Ensemble - Dress, Bodice, and Stole

Ensemble of wine red linen, consisting of: A) Dress of wine red linen. Jumper-style, the seamed bodice has a wide, rounded neckline and is sleeveless. The skirt gathers slightly into the waist, which dips slightly to hips. Two slit pockets at side skirt seams just below waist. Center back opening, with 5 large circular wine red plastic buttons, a hook-and-eye at waist, two hidden snaps at neckline, and two hidden snaps below waist. Fully lined in red silk. Designer's label: "Norman Norell / New York" B) Under-bodice of wine red silk and wine red linen. Cropped bodice of silk with low, rounded neckline, and center front opening with 5 hook-and-eyes. Short sleeves of wine red linen to match dress. No labels in under-bodice. C) Stole of matching fabric. 50" x 12" rectangle, formed as a tube. No labels in shawl. Size 10 or 12. Note: Outer dress can be worn with or without under-bodice, giving the dress the appearance of being either sleeved or sleeveless.
