Letter from R. T. P. Allen to J. D. and D. C. Giddings. Colonel Allen writes that he needs to collect some notes on behalf of Helen L. Carmer from the Giddings brothers, who received the notes from the late Allen Lewis. Mrs. Carmer also would like the brothers to take up the matter of a claim on the Female College Boarding House in Chappell Hill between $2,000-$3,000.

Letter written by J. O. Appelquist to Heber Stone. Appelquist informs Stone that the ore sample sent to Dr. Hyer has been forwarded to Albert Stone.

Letter from John Atkinson to J. D. and D. C. Giddings. Atkinson asks the Giddings brothers to meet with a Mr. Breedlove to settle the amount owed on the Crockett Estate. He and his partner are in danger of losing some land if Mr. Chadwick issues a judgment and execution.

Letter from Horace Bishop to Hon. J. D. Giddings. Discusses what should be done with two tracts of land in order to raise money to make improvements to Southwestern University.

Letter from Horace Bishop to Hon. J. D. Giddings. Discusses a tract of land Bishop has sold to pay for improvements to the univeristy, namely an enclosure and portico.

Pamphlet outlining reasons that Southwestern University should stay permanently in Georgetown, describing the history of the school and connection to the community. It was issued in response to efforts to move the university to Fort Worth between 1907 and 1911 as part of the Georgetown anti-removal effort and is addressed to the "Methodists of Texas."

Letter from P. E. Carnes to Mr. Giddings. Carnes explains that he is returning a deed to Giddings because he has failed to make any progress in making arrangements for the property. There is a homestead with considerable land for cultivation, but it cannot be sold until its heirs come of age. Carnes is concerned at the possibility that F. A. Mood may leave Soule University. He knows of people who would leave the college along with Mood, and he feels that this would be very detrimental to the school. In the postscript, Carnes requests the order of a kitchen implement.

Letter from William Chappell to J. D. Giddings. Chappell begins by stating that he has seen a copy of the order that the Soule University Board of Trustees gave to the Building Committee to hypothecate all of the estate real and personal in order to secure a loan to build a "stone edifice." However, the committee failed to include the Rock Building and donated lands in the hypothecation, and this failure is not the fault of the Board of Trustees because it was explicit in its instructions to include all estate real and personal. Discussing a different matter, he explains how William Keesee with a black man purchased D. Ayrs' land, which had been given to him by his father in Alabama in 1837 or 1838. The deed to Mr. Ayrs' land was not made until after Keesee's death. Ayrs knew that the land had been donated, but Chappell does not know whether he deeded it to the university or his heirs.

Letter from D. S. Chesshir to Hon. J. D. Giddings. The author expresses his concern that a Mr. Davis has not made his payment and hopes that J. D. Giddings can sort it out before D. S. Chesshir comes to visit Brenham. Mentions surveying land donated to [Southwestern] University.

Letter from John Childer to Hon. J.D. Giddings. Contains details about plans to raise the money to create a law department at Soule University and seeks the advice of J.D. Giddings.

Letter written by H. Chilton to Hon. Heber Stone. Chilton expresses his thanks and describes what he liked about the address Stone gave at Southwestern University.

Letter from W. G. Connor to J. D. Giddings. Connor explains that he has sent Bro. Mood with twelve dollars to give to Giddings, and since he has another subscriber, Connor asks Giddings to pay him back fifteen dollars for a three dollar credit. Connor also says that Giddings needs to pay Dr. F.O. Dannelly of Waxahachie five dollars for paying Giddings' subscription to the Southern Quarterly.

Letter from B.D. Dashiell to J. D. and D. C. Giddings. Dashiell explains that he has not collected rent from Dr. Connor on the female boarding house and wants the brothers to take up the matter. He will send them a list of the stockholders for the house. He also expresses his appreciation for the Giddings' kindness to Brother Burford.

Letter from B. D. Dashiell to Hon. J. D. Giddings. Dashiell gives some dates when he expects to be home and expresses his desire to be present when the abitrators meet. He then recommends various people to "estimate the work." Dashiell says that the Soule University board has given Kennon and himself the authority to give bond for the cost in the case of Keesee's heirs. In the case of Mrs. Browning's claim, the matter is not yet settled to Dashiell's disappointment. He plans to be absent often from his home and may move to Houston, and so the board would have to elect new officers, but Dashiell is reluctant to pass on his troubles to a new officer.

Letter from B. D. Dashiell to J. D. Giddings. Dashiell tells Giddings that he has received half of the rent owed by Dr. Connor on the boarding house. On Sunday, Dashiell will announce a stockholders' meeting scheduled for Tuesday, where he will tell them of Gidding's proposition.

Letter from B. D. Dashiell to Hon. J. D. Giddings. Dashiell explains that he has visited Mr. Stone and some of the stockholders, and they are unwilling to transfer. Stone says that he can prove Mr. Carmer failed to exact the payment of stock and therefore take recourse on the boarding house, yet Dashiell claims that Stone is and was president of the board of stockholders and also failed to exact the unpaid stock. The stockholders do not trust Dashiell as their advisor because they think he is attempting to get the best bargain that he can for Mrs. Carmer.

Letter from B. D. Dashiell to Hon. J. D. Giddings. Dashiell tells Giddings that the boarding house at Chappell Hill Female College is insured by the Planters Insurance Company of Houston for $2,500, and since he believes that Mrs. Carmer has forgotten this detail, he will write to her to remind her. Also, he showed Giddings' letter to Joseph Stone and received his advice to sell the boarding house property and divide the proceeds among the stockholders.

Letter from B. D. Dashiell to Hon. J. D. Giddings. Dashiell begins by apologizing for the brevity of his previous letter and lays down the "facts" of the Browning suit. Captain T. Smith, the chairman of a committee formed to deal with the Browning claim as well as other claims against Soule University, made efforts to convince Mrs. Browning to give her claim for land, but she has refused. Giddings had served as the main advisor to the Board of Trustees and yet was also serving as Mrs. Browning's attorney, so Giddings suggested that Col. Swearingen take his place as the board's advisor. Dashiell would rather not lose the university without a fair effort to save it. The Trustees are awaiting any agreement Giddings and Swearingen can work out. Dashiell concludes with questions expressing his confusion as to why Mrs. Browning is not satisfied with claiming the land when it would benefit her family.

Letter from B. D. Dashiell to Hon. J. D. Giddings. Most of the trustees do not want to do anything further in the Browning suit and would just let the suit determine the case. If the institution is lost, then the trustees will have the opportunity to "begin afresh."

Letter from J. H. Davidson to Hon. J. D. Giddings. Davidson attempts to clarify an issue about which he wrote in a previous letter to Giddings. He says that when the building committee borrowed money, he expected that the committee members' names would appear on the note or notes after the settlement.

Letter from John M. Davis to "Judge Giddings." Davis describes his success in selling land around the San Jacinto River and offers to sell some more land in the area for the judge. As a professor of mathematics at Soule University, he is also anxious to know the financial state of the university as well as the Kirby estate.
