He told John that his request to have the sacks the clothing were delivered in to be returned was being taken care of. Included is an envelope addressed to "Mr. J. P. Osterhout."

Letter from John Patterson Osterhout to his mother, Sarah Osterhout, discussing his safe arrival to Bellville, Texas. He told her he might be staying there for a few months and starting a school, but was unsure. He promised to write her a longer letter soon and let her know the mail only came through once a week.

Letter from Junia Roberts Osterhout to her husband, John Patterson Osterhout. She wrote about work that was being done around their home, including gathering wood and field work. In the letter, she mentioned how she and the children were getting along while he was away and that she hoped he would return home soon.

Letter from Gertrude Osterhout to her sisters, Ora and Junia Roberts Osterhout. She wrote to her sisters while they were visiting family with their mother. She let her sisters know of some guests that had stopped by to see them. Gertrude hoped that her younger sisters were behaving and enjoying their time with family.

Letter from Mary P and H. J. Chamberlin to Ora Osterhout regarding news she had heard from the Osterhouts. Mary appreciated hearing from the family and told Ora that they should take good care of their mother. She included other small bits of gossip. Her husband wrote his own brief letter on the back and expressed his gratitude for the Osterhouts.
