Martha and Vella advise Carswell about the folks at home. Ashley, at 24 years of age, is having financial difficulties and his wife Martha is five months along and has been advised by Dr. Schanze to stay in bed. They advise that Homerville is changing; paving roads and cutting down trees about which Papa is pitching a fit. Martha advises that Mama wrote the letter and she typed it. She has a nice job down in the Ordinary's Office.

A Western Union telegram sent to T. N. Carswell, Abilene, Texas from Eula Clark, Columbia, South Corlina, dated July 21, 1949. Eula advises that this is one of her emergencies and her letters remain unanswered asking if something is wrong or what, that she is terribly upset.

A letter written to Horace J. Blackwell, Dallas, Texas from T. N. Carswell, Abilene, Texas, dated July 24, 1949. Carswell appeals "as a friend in need of aid" requesting Blackwell's help to find employment for Peggy in Dallas without her knowing that he has asked for help.

A letter written to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Abilene, Texas from Horace J. Blackwell, Vice President, First National Bank, Dallas 1, Texas, dated July 28, 1949. Blackwell advises Carswell that he visited with Peggy, that it was a pleasure to meet her and that their personnel department has advised her and suggested a lead.

A letter written to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Abilene, Texas, from Milton Whiting, Whiting Oil Company, Clifton Forge, Virginia, dated February 12, 1949. Whiting acknowledges his receipt of the letter from Carswell in reference to tires and tubes for his old Buick. He advises that he is shipping four tires and tubes, relays the cost and recommends using the best of his old set as the spare.

A letter written to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Abilene, Texas, from Milton Whiting, Whiting Oil Company, Clifton Forge, Virginia, dated February 16, 1949. Whiting advises that he has enclosed the invoice for the tires and tubes assuring of their quality, that he filled in Carswell's check for $66.20, gives a guarantee on material and workmanship and comments on the spring-like weather hoping they will have no winter.

Whiting addresses the steps needed for registering Carswell's car in his own name and regrets this trouble caused him by Whiting having not investigated first.

Johnson expresses his appreciation for the Christmas card as well as the tie from Neely-Barnes noting it always brings back nostalgic memories. He discourses on the stock market advising that it is possibly picking up due to the feeling that Truman's bark was worse than his bite and predicts that the prospects for 1949 look good. He explains regarding some share purchases and sell offs and predicts, again, a change in the market some time in 1949.
