Carswell defends his opinion, noting the probability of "Dossie" being selected for the job thus requesting that "Dossie" encourage the selection of Rupert, in order to keep Rupert at Simmons, then the offer of the presidency would be made in due course to "Dossie".

A letter written to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Sierra Blanca, Texas from Rupert N. Richardson, Acting President, Hardin-Simmons University dated April 16, 1944. Humorous letter regarding Richardson looking after the "house and goods" while Carswell is away, of having taken care of the car casings and battery and of their trouble in starting Carswell's car. Richardson advises of their church having started a campaign to raise $35,000 for H.S.U.

Jennings replies to the letter from Carswell dated June 14 regarding the request made for his approval to publish his address made to the Exes of Hardin-Simmons University. He advises of an attached copy of a letter which he addressed to Dr. Richardson. Typewritten on business letterhead bearing SURVEY BOND watermark.

Jennings gives his approval to publish his address but advises of the necessity to give credit for a quote from "The Mainspring" by Henry Grady Weaver that he used in his address.

A Commencement Announcement and Envelope from the School of Nursing, Hendrick Memorial Hospital, that includes the seal of 1964, to be held on August 1st at Calvary Baptist Church in Abilene, Texas. The envelope into which the announcement was placed is also included in the record, addressed to Mr. and Mrs. T. N. Carswell and postmarked July 16, 1964.

Williams advises Carswell of the delay in his writing concerning the opening of a new Abilene District Office due to the shuffling of personnel in their Division and the recent completion of plans. He announces Mr. James Dennis as the District Parole Officer for Abilene and expresses his belief that Carswell will enjoy working with Mr. Dennis.

A letter written to Dr. Jeff Davis, United Texas Drys, from T. N. Carswell, Chairman 24th Senatorial District Drys, dated January 16, 1941. Carswell expresses his appreciation for the letter and enclosure from Davis of January 14. He advises of his efforts to organize the 24th Senatorial District, describing the interest as luke warm but assures Davis that he will not stop until they have a set-up in each county. He advises of meetings already scheduled and requests the names of any leaders in the counties of the District.

Miller advises Carswell that he is enclosing a copy of the letter which he is writing to Dr. Jeff Davis. He advises that the letter might be of interest since Carswell phoned yesterday afternoon. The attached letter is written to Dr. Jeff Davis, Executive Secretary, United Texas Drys from E. J. Miller, Judge, 35th Judicial District, Brownwood, Texas dated July 16, 1941. Miller reports on the proceedings regarding Ellison vs. Texas Liquor Board, advises to await the action of the Court of Civil Appeals and gives a brief itinerary of his travel and work to date and for the next two weeks requesting further remittance as soon as it may be convenient.

A letter written to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Abilene, Texas, from Jeff Davis, Executive Secretary, United Texas Drys, dated February 16, 1942. Davis complains about the lack of communication from Pastors after services are held in their churches, advises that their Executive Committee approved the plan that they had discussed with Dr. Jenkens when in Abilene and notes an enclosed check to Carswell for reimbursement for his Belton trip. In postscript, Davis requests Carswell's opinion regarding asking Merkel, Tuscola and Caps to join their field day at Abilene.

A letter written to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Abilene, Texas, from Jeff Davis, Executive Secretary, United Texas Drys, dated March 16, 1943. Davis advises of the changes in the Curfew Bill making it a "farce" and, therefore, requests that they write to their representatives urging them to support the amendment with an eleven o'clock closing hour and no sales on Sunday.

A letter written to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Abilene, Texas, from Walter H. McKenzie, Executive Secretary, United Texas Drys, dated February 16, 1944. McKenzie advises Carswell of his election as a member of the Executive Committee which is comprised of 25 members. He requests that the committee members meet with bretheren from wet areas to work toward drying up wet spots with local option elections.

A letter written to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Abilene, Texas, from Margaret R. Burger, General Secretary, The Alcoholic Foundation, General Headquarters - Alcoholics Anonymous, dated January 16, 1948. Burger expresses her appreciation for the interest shown by Carswell in Alcoholics Anonymous and explains the affiliation of Mr. Fort and Mr. Badger is by way of the Educational Committee sponsored by Yale University.
