A handwritten invitation addressed to the Junior Class dated March 13, 1914 to attend an "oyster" meal. This item was originally part of a scrapbook assembled by Thomas Norwood Carswell, largely containing items related to his time at Simmons College (Abilene, Texas).

The minutes of the Hardin-Simmons University Building Committee meeting held on March 13 by E. W. Ledbetter, Secretary-Treasurer. The minutes include a list of recommendations by The Building Committee to be made to the Board of Trustees regarding the enlargement and improvement of Hardin-Simmons University. The names of the men on the committee include Mr. O. D. Dillingham, Mr. George S. Anderson, Dr. R. N. Richardson, Mr. Jake Sandefer, Mr. Leroy Jennings and Mr. George Foster.

Collier reminds Carswell of the private tours that will start at 7:00 and of the receiving line composed of the trustees and their wives on Saturday evening. The Ladies' Auxilliary will light the fountain Friday evening, and they hope many will attend a dedicatory service on Sunday.

The letter includes an advisement to Lipscomb of having written to him previously and having received no answer regarding an unfit board member noting that the board member has been "drunk for the past week now".

The letter includes a complaint made regarding a board member in Culberson County and an advisement that two letters written previously to Major [John W.] Lipscomb have not been answered.

A letter addressed to the Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles, from T. N. Carswell, Chairman, Taylor County Parole Board, dated June 13, 1955. Carswell advises the Board of his interest in Subject No. 108,345 informing them that he is a good cook and of the shortage of cooks in Abilene because of the town's rapid growth. Carswell requests that the Board recommend parole based on the good record of Subject and the opportunity for a good job.

A letter written to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Chairman, Taylor County Parole Board, from H. M. Randall, Administrator, Interstate Parole Compact, Salem, Oregon, by Robert E. Jones, Deputy Administrator, dated April 13, 1956. Referring to a note Carswell appended to the report for Subject OSP 22624, Randall explains that there is a greater chance for a pardon after a subject has been supervised for at least two years. He discusses Oregon laws regarding the voting rights of offenders, the fact that pardons are rarely issued in Oregon and closes stating that they trust that Subject will continue to merit Carswell's favorable comments.

A letter addressed to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Chairman, Taylor County Parole Board from a parolee/inmate in Stillwater, Minnesota, dated February 13, 1954. Subject 17671 [108,345] explains that Mrs. Breeding's misunderstanding with Carswell is resolved, advises of his impending transfer to the Texas Prison System and reports of Mr. Swenson's offer to write a letter to the warden at Huntsville.
