Sandefer handwrites a postscript stressing his hope that Carswell will be present.

A letter written to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Abilene, Texas from W. P. Wright, Chairman of the Board, Hardin-Simmons University dated February 10, 1947. Wright announces a meeting of the Board of Trustees of Hardin-Simmons University and stresses his request that Carswell attend citing the many changes at the University and the interest shown by Carswell in the Sandefer Memorial Building. Wright closes the letter with an appeal to Carswell to "be on hand―we need you."

Reiff acknowledges his receipt of the letter from Carswell asking him to inform the Convention nominating committee of his desire that someone replace him on the Board of Trustees. Reiff expresses his appreciation and that of the University to Carswell for his loyalty and interest in the school for more than forty years.

A letter written to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Abilene, Texas from E. M. Collier, Administrator, Hendrick Memorial Hospital dated June 10, 1952. Collier replies to the letter from Carswell dated June 5 in which he discusses ideas for permanently recording the names of contributors to Hendrick Memorial Hospital but interjects, "The more I think of this project, the more I realize there is a great deal of danger in what we are about to do."

Collier advises of the placement of the contribution given by Carswell into the Plant Fund for the x-ray building which is under construction. He expresses his appreciation for the support financially, dedication and long service given by Carswell.

A letter written to Dr. E. S. James, Editor of The Baptist Standard, from T. N. Carswell, dated January 10, 1958. Carswell discusses the attached editorial written by James, "Down with The Baptists" and addresses an inference that he finds unclear: "that our Baptist schools are in error when admission is granted to non-Baptists, and in admitting Baptists whose church record is amiss". Carswell advises of his disagreement with such a policy, of the effects of the possible application in the future. The article in question, which appeared in the January 1958 issue of The Baptist Standard, is attached, and includes the report regarding student protests at Wake Forest demonstrating against the convention for its ban on dancing on campus; condemnation of the action by Wake Forest trustees which allowed dancing on campus; praise regarding action taken by President J. C. Canipe; condemnation of students on any Baptist campus participating in unchristian demonstrations then presenting the theory these students are not Baptists which stems from schools accepting applicants from other denominations.

A memorandum from L. M. Fellbaum, Major, Q. M. C., Policy Supervisor to Mr. T. N. Carswell dated September 10, 1943. Fellbaum instructs Carswell to instruct and assist Taylor County Local Boards Nos. 1 and 2 in Abilene, Texas at the termination of his annual leave then return to Austin on October 1, 1943. A handwritten notation by Carswell advises of a phone call on September 27, 1943 changing the return date to Austin to September 29, 1943.

A letter addressed to the State Director of Selective Service, Austin 17, Texas, from T. N. Carswell, El Paso, Texas dated May 10, 1944. Carswell advises of a descrepancy by the T. and N. O. Railroad Company regarding a form 42-A in the file of a registrant listed as an employee of the company. Carswell advises that he is calling attention to this discrepency due to the fact that he noted many such instances of this nature during the inspection of the El Paso Boards.

A letter written to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Chairman, Taylor County Parole Board, from Thomas B. White, Member, Board of Pardons and Paroles, Texas, dated February 10, 1955. White advises Carswell that Jack Ross is now the Chairman of the Board. He advises parole is now under consideration for Subject 108,345 assuring Carswell that the letters from him and Warden E. T. Swenson are being considered.

Randall, Director, Board of Parole and Probation, Salem, Oregon, from Jack Ross, Administrator, Interstate Parole Compact (by Maizie Toungate, Supervisor, Parole Division), Board of Pardons and Paroles, Texas, dated February 10, 1955. Toungate advises Randall of the acceptance of Subject OSP 22624 for supervision advising that Subject is to report to Mr. T. N. Carswell.

An arrival notice for a parolee, dated May 10, 1955. Notice is regarding Subject No. 130,969, T. N. Carswell, Parole Supervisor. Casey's Triple A Drive In, 2441 S. 1st, Abilene, Texas identified as employer.

A letter written to Judge Clyde Suddath from T. N. Carswell, Chairman, Taylor County Parole Board, dated October 10, 1955. Carswell admonishes Suddath to return the file papers of Subject 95040 at once, that a responsible public official would have done so without the necessity of a second request. A typewritten reply at the bottom of the page from Suddath to Carswell advises of the data as requested and thanks Carswell for his courtesy.

A letter addressed to the Bureau of Probation and Parole, Columbus 15, Ohio via Hon. Jack Ross, Interstate Compact, Austin, Texas, from T. N. Carswell, Chairman, Taylor County, Texas, Parole Board, dated October 10, 1955. The letter contains a review of Subject 95040 due to the completion of the one year probation period. Carswell advises the Board regarding the good conduct of Subject and that his "interest in right direction progress" affords them genuine satisfaction.

Gordon, Administrator, Interstate Compact, Sacramento 14, California, from Howard Carney, Administrator, Interstate Parole Compact (by Betty Christian, Chief, Parole Division), Department of State, Texas dated December 10, 1953. Christian advises Gordon regarding a monthly report for Subject No. 17095 and requests to be advised if Subject is eligible for a release from reporting. Typewritten at the bottom of the page is correspondence from B C [Betty Christian] to Mr. Carswell expressing her appreciation for the receipt of the monthly report on Subject and for his assistance in this work.
