[Coral Honeysuckle - Nature's Colorful Elegance in East Texas]

Coral honeysuckle, also known as Evergreen Honeysuckle, Trumpet Honeysuckle, Woodbine, Scarlet Trumpet, or Red Honeysuckle, graces the landscape of East Texas with its vibrant presence. This smooth, twining evergreen vine embellishes stream banks, woods, and thickets, spreading its dark, shiny green leaves with a white lower surface. Its trumpet-shaped corolla, occurring in clusters of four to six blossoms, offers a stunning display of red outside and orange inside, occasionally showcasing all orange or yellow hues. Delighting the senses, the coral honeysuckle's twining stems, ranging from red to green, transform to a charming grey with a shreddy texture upon maturity. As September arrives, clusters of red berries adorn the vine, adding further allure. Perfectly suited to climb fences and trellises, this evergreen beauty attracts pollinating hummingbirds with its early bloom in January, followed by sporadic blossoms throughout the growing season. Unlike its more aggressive counterpart, the Japanese honeysuckle, coral honeysuckle remains a beloved and non-invasive addition to the enchanting East Texas Piney Woods.
