The ceremony opens with congratulation of the graduates by Victor Prybutok, Vice Provost of Graduate Education and Dean of the Toulouse Graduate School. President Neal Smatresk gave a speech urging the students to make the most of their degrees and explained the significance of their ceremonial robes. Dean Prybutok then presented the candidates for graduation, first doctoral candidates and then those certified for a master's degree. Dr. Cathy Bryce of UNT Board of Regents also spoke briefly before closing remarks were given by Dean Prybutok. The faculty and students joined in singing the alma mater. The ceremony ended with the recession of graduates.

Dr. Nicole Dash, Dean of the College of Health and Public Service, gave the closing remarks before a doctoral student sang the Alma Mater as the graduates and faculty exit the auditorium.

He continues on to discuss Ken and his experiences being fired from their jobs due to their sexual identities, his struggles to find a printer for his community newspaper, and the Ken A. Cyr vs T.S. Walls civil rights case.
