The National Museum of the Pacific War presents an interview with Muriel Usselman. Usselman was a child living in Hawaii when Pearl Harbor was attacked. Her father worked as an electrician and the family lived on base. She recalls what she witnessed during the attack on 7 December as well as her experiences in the following days. She returned with her family to the Mainland in 1944.

The following document conducts stock assessment reports on deep-slope bottomfish along the State of Hawaii. The goal of this report is to improve stock assessments through optimal design and implementation of a fishery-independent survey for the Deep-7 bottomfish complex in the main Hawaiian Islands.

He discusses entering the U.S. Navy in September of 1942 without basic training as he was a college graduate. After being sworn in at Wabash College he was sent to Harvard Business School for Supply Corps for 4 months before being assigned to a ship in Pearl Harbor despite having no sailing training. Mr. hood was assigned to the Cummings DE643, he was supposed to be on the Samuel B. Roberts but the naval officer over him changed his mind last minute and 37 days later the Roberts sunk. While in Tulagi, Mr. Hood was involved in shooting down a Kamikaze plane, even receiving a ribbon for it after the war. He was also involved in the Battle of Okinawa and even saved two shells and years later had them signed by U.S. pilot Paul Tibbets. Mr. Hood was discharged from the Navy on February 28th, 1946, at Santa Ana, California as a Full Lieutenant. He was recalled to the Navy for the Korean War on March 2nd, 1951, and discharged for the final time on March 30th, 1953, as a Lieutenant Commander.

The National Museum of the Pacific War presents an oral interview with Bill Brown. Brown was studying at the University of Texas at El Paso whe nhe joined the Army Air Force in 1942. Brown discusses his flight training, which occurred throughout Texas. With training cmplete, Brown was sent to Hawaii where he continued training with the 45th Fighter Squadron, 7th Air Force. Soon his unit was shipped to Iwo Jima where they flew bomber escort for bombing missions over the home islands of Japan. Brown was shot down over Yokahama and bailed out over the Tokyo Bay, where he was resuced by the USS Pipefish (SS-388). Brown was taken to Hawaii to recover and was eventually shipped back to the US, where he was discharged in September, 1945.

The following document provides the findings on the field studies over the endangered Hawaiian monk seal in the Northwestern Hawaiian Islands during 1997. The information covered evaluates the status and trends of monk seal populations, natural history traits (survival, reproduction, growth, behavior, and feeding habits), and the success of various activities designed to facilitate population growths.

Interview with John Reas, a Navy WWII veteran and POW from New Albany, Indiana, who survived the sinking of the USS Houston (CA-30). Reas discusses his assignment to the Houston and prewar operations in the Pacific, the start of the war and convoy duty, being bombed by 54 Japanese planes, the Battle of Sunda Strait, the sinking, capture by the Japanese, experiences in internment at Bicycle Camp in Batavia, transfer to Thanbyuzayat, work on the Burma Railway, the USS Houston Survivors List, liberation, and life after the war. In appendix is the USS Houston Survivors list, letters of his regarding the list, brief accounts written by Reas of different experiences in the war, a letter by Lanson H. Harris confirming how the list was given to OSS officers, and a photo of Reas' wallet that he carried through the war.

This report analyzes the observational studies of the Hawaiian monk seal on Laysan Island in the Northwestern Hawaiian Islands during April 10 to August 9 and October 14 to November 4 1990. The data collected focuses on haul-out, behavior, and reproductive patterns; population structure; and factors affecting survival.

Rodgers discusses joining the Army and training, assignment to coastal artillery at Fort Shafter, operations there, work in communications, alerts, life in the peacetime Army, the morning of December 7th and reaction to the attack, handling communications at battalion HQ, the aftermath and following days, and his subsequent service in the Pacific War. In appendix is a letter by Rodgers to his mother of December 31, 1941, and a journal of his experiences typed during the war.

Interview with Joe C. Dillon, a United States Navy veteran, concerning his memories of being aboard the cruiser, the USS Saint Louis, during the attack of December 7, 1941 on Peal Harbor. Dillon also discusses training, life in the Navy, and the other cruisers in the harbor during the attack.
