Introduction: the following report is the first systematic account of fossil plants from the state of South Carolina.

From preface: The manuscript of this report, which is the culmination of field and office studies carried on intermittently s' ice 1914, partly in cooperation with the Geological Survey of Georgia, was completed early in 1938. It was prepared with the expectation that it would form part of a more comprehensive report on the geology of Georgia by several authors, which was intended to accompany a geologic map of the entire State on a scale of 1: 500,000. However, this map without the text was published in 1939 by the Georgia Division of Mines, Mining and Geology. Part of this map is reproduced herein as plate 1 without revision.

From abstract: "This report is a survey of present and potential production of monazite from part of the Maryland-Florida section of the Atlantic Coastal Plain."

From abstract: "Sediments of the inner part of the southern Atlantic Coastal Plain have been sampled and examined for monazite." The report provides sections on general geology, field and laboratory methods, distribution of monazite, and other mineral products.

Report about monzanite placers in streams of the western part of the Piedmont in Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia. The objective of the report is to describe local monazite deposits, to determine geologic controls of monazite placers in the southeastern Piedmont, and to evaluate placer potentialities of the area.

From purpose of the report: The purpose of this report is to present the available information regarding the relation between the rate of ground-water withdrawal and the rate of decline or artesian pressure in a 40-foot "shell" limestone aquifer that was dewatered during construction of Walter F. George Lock and Dam...The report indicates a potential source of a large supply of ground water available for industrial and other uses in an area readily accessible by barge transportation from the Gulf of Mexico to Columbus, Ga.

This report provides a detailed survey of the artesian aquifer that acts as the main source of water "for Brooks, Lowndes, and western Eocene Counties in south Georgia." It includes maps, tables, and graphs.

From purpose and scope: The purpose of this study are to derive base flow estimates for representative parts of the Cretaceous and Tertiary clastic outcrop area as an aid in estimating recharge to the sand aquifers; to use base flow relations to estimate aquifer hydraulic parameters; and to relate the lithology of the aquifer to the streamflow duration curves.

Abstract: The U.S. Geological Survey maintains a quality-assurance program based on the analysis of reference samples for its two water-analysis laboratories located in Atlanta, Georgia, and Denver, Colorado. Reference samples containing inorganic constituents are prepared at the U.S. Geological Survey's Ocala, Florida office and disguised as routine samples, and sent daily to each laboratory through other U.S. Geological Survey offices. The results are permanently stored in the National Water Data Storage and Retrieval System (WATSTORE), the U.S. Geological Survey's data base for all water data. These data are analyzed statistically for precision and bias. The results of these statistical analyses are presented for data collected during the 1981 calendar year. In addition, one sample containing known concentrations chlorophyll a were analyzed in both laboratories, and these results also are presented.

From introduction: The purpose of this study was to determine the distance the tide-driven saline water from the ocean traveled upstream and to define the specific-conductance and chloronity gradients in the lower reaches of the Altamaha, Satilla, and St. Marys Rivers during the high spring tide and low-flow event.

From abstract: A knowledge of the magnitude and frequency of floods is needed for the design of highway drainage structures, for establishing flood insurance rates, and for many other uses by urban planners and engineers. This report presents a method for estimating the magnitude and frequency of floods on small streams in the Atlanta, Georgia, metropolitan area.

From introduction: This report reviews descriptive background information of the Kings Bay area and presents data on currents, salinity, temperature, turbidity, suspended sediment, phytoplankton, and on the chemical and physical characteristics of bottom sediments. Water, salt, and suspended-sediment discharges are computed for consecutive ebbtides and floodtides that occurred during the November investigation.

From introduction: This review represents a consolidation of larval information not heretofore available in English. It utilizes modern nomenclature and keys the larvae of nine genera of the three above mentioned tribes (Protanypus, Boreoheptagyia and Diamesa).

From purpose and scope: This report examines and discusses the severity, areal extent, and duration of the 1980-81 drought in Georgia. This drought produced the lowest rates of streamflow since 1954 in most areas of the State and the lowest since 1925 in some areas.

A report regarding a survey performed for heavy minerals in the Pleistocene Terraces of South Carolina and Georgia.
