The study reported in the thesis attempted to examine the decision-making process for the institutionalization of older people in homes for the aged. More specifically, it sought to determine who was responsible for the decisions, to discover if this responsibility was related to selected social factors, and to ascertain if it affected the adjustment of older people to the institutional setting.

National aid, transmitted and modified by the state and supplemented by the community, is only beginning to be specifically applied to the housing needs of the indigent aged. It is to the question of government's role in the housing of this element of the population that this study is addressed.

There are two major purposes of this study. First, it will attempt to ascertain whether self-concept, as measured by a self-concept scale, will fluctuate significantly due to a recent ego inflating or deflating experience, and if so, how lasting and in what areas are the effects. Secondly, it will note whether or not the low self-concept individual is more susceptible to changes in self-concept due to these environmental changes than the high self-concept individual.

The purpose of this investigation, conceived in its broadest sense, was to study the living arrangements of older persons over a specific period of time in an attempt to arrive at some generalizations about the nature and changes of these arrangements as they relate to certain sociological variables.

The problem of this study was to determine if juvenile delinquents who commit auto theft without an accomplice differ significantly in certain characteristics from those who commit such thefts with one of more confederates. The characteristics investigated were: (1) scores made on individual scales of the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory and (2) intellectual ability as measured by the California Short-Form Test of Mental Maturity. Furthermore, the same characteristics were examined to determine if a significant difference existed between each of the groups of juvenile delinquents and a group of juveniles who did not have a record of delinquency and attended Sunday School classes regularly.

This study is an attempt to discover the church members' hierarchy of ministerial roles and the social significance of their evaluations.

Since there has been an abundance of research concerning high and low social status and little on inconsistents, the present study intends to shed some understanding of this group by comparing their feelings and attitudes to the highs and lows. The purpose of this research was to investigate certain value orientations of adult women of low socio-economic status in Dallas, Texas. Central to the approach to values relied upon in this research project was a concern for cultural integration and change. Of interest was a partial description of the degree of cultural integration and an partial description of strains that exist within the social systems under analysis: a group of 50 Negro women and a group of 50 white women.

The question of maladjustment of individuals with speech defects and its subsequent manifestation is the basic issue of this thesis. The study was conducted to answer the question: "What is the incidence of speech defects among juveniles exhibiting antisocial aggressive behavior?"

This thesis describes experimental work done in art education with a small group of children that met each Saturday at Dallas Services for the Blind over a two year period. The research used textured collage art projects as the medium of artistic expression for the children.

The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between articulation ability and reading ability, between articulation ability and language development, and between language development and reading ability. This study examined children with minor difficulties and children with a history of more severe articulation problems separately in order to determine whether severity of articulation disability is related to reading ability.

The purpose of this study is threefold. First, numerical control will be analyzed objectively to ascertain its justification in terms of meeting the requirements of the basic manufacturing process phases. The purpose of this thesis is to provide a descriptive study of psychiatric and social variables related to aged first admissions to a private psychiatric hospital in the calendar years 1959 through 1963. The study also seeks to determine what, if any, relationship exists between background characteristics of the patients and their diagnoses. Finally, the diagnosis of the patient is compared with a series of patient outcome variables to determine the relationship, if any, between diagnosis and selected recovery variables. Due to the nature of the data used, the emphasis of the thesis is upon describing relationships rather than testing hypotheses.

When the heterogeneity of the city is considered, the sociological implications which stem from this heterogeneity become important to understanding the social structure of the city. One of these sociological implications is intrinsic in the patterns of transportation. This is an ecological study of the structure and changing structure of parts of the city. We will study the relationship between two variables; social area characteristics and patterns of transportation.

This study was an attempt to determine the effectiveness of loopfilms as a supplement to the demonstration-explanation method of teaching sports skills.

In order to create a motivational device to help students become more aware of their surroundings, an audio-visual project was chosen as the most effective means of reaching intermediate grade children in a low socio-ecomonic area. Developing an effective sett of motivational experiences for enriching learning through seeing in the art education program was the task undertaken in this study.

This is a study of the safety in the industrial arts laboratories in the Dallas Independent School System. A questionnaire was sent to each instructor of industrial arts metalworking, woodworking, electricity, and power mechanics, and included nine main areas of safety.

The purpose of this investigation was (1) to perform hearing screening tests on 100 youths who are classified as delinquent; (2) to evaluate more completely the hearing of those who fail the hearing screening tests in order to determine the nature and severity of the losses; and (3) to determine whether or not any significant number of the youths tested demonstrate nonorganic components in their reported audiometric thresholds.
