Carswell expresses his appreciation for the example and inspiration Pope has been to his life and applies the term "uncomman man" describing the significance of the term as being historically applied to a very few men by Dr. Hamilton C. Mabie, "a Christian statesman, philosoper and scholar of world stature in the early part of this century". Carswell offers the season's greetings.

Carswell explains his interest in Subject 60841-2, a prospective parolee, as resulting from a conversation with Subject's mother and information from other sources regarding the family. He advises that he will accept the supervision if the Board allows the subject to transfer to Texas. Notes include addresses for North Carolina Board of Parole. Carswell advises Morrow of his decision to wait until after the general election to send out his letters citing that a letter now about a senatorial race for which an election date has not been set would not accomplish its full purpose. He supplies the company name and address where his daughter, Miss Peggy Carswell, is employeed, as requested by Morrow. He advises that he gave Morrow's interview to the Eisenhower committee with the idea of its being used as advertisement but has received no firm commitment regarding its use.

A letter written to Mr. Carswell from "A Jeffersonian Democrat," Abilene, Texas, dated July 23, 1954. An anonymous writer expresses anger regarding a letter sent by Carswell addressed to "Friends and voters in Precinct 12," accusing Carswell and Allan Shivers of having split the Democratic Party, the consequence of which "will no doubt have Jefferson and Jackson turn over in their graves." The envelope also contained three identical convention ribbons imprited "Delegate Taylor County, State Democratic Convention, September 14, 1954, Mineral Wells." The envelope into which the letter and ribbons were placed is also included in the record. The envelope is addressed to "Mr. Turn-coat Carswell, College Heights School, Abilene, Texas postmarked Abilene, Texas, July 23, 1954."

Landrum conceeds that it is true there are underlying causes for criminality in Dallas suggesting one cause is "our modern church has lost its appeal" but defends his column citing that Dallas is understaffed in its police and sheriff forces.
