Correlation of Exponential and PCTR Measurements of Cluster Fuel Elements with Theory
Accurate knowledge of the lattice parameters comprised in the four factor formula k∞=η∈Pi are required for optimum designing of reactors. In the special case of cluster fuel elements conventional handbook formulas are of little use. It is the intent of this paper to report the results of some recent improvements in the calculation of these parameters. By the addition of certain refinements in the calculation of these parameters. By the addition of certain refinements to the conventional calculational methods considerable success has been obtained in the correlation of theory with experiment.

Fluorescent X-Ray Spectrography- A Recent Analytical Technique
Because of the relative simplicity of the X-Ray spectra and recent improvements in instrumentation, analytical applications of X-Ray of spectrography are becoming very popular. The method us applicable to both qualitative and quantitative determinations of all elements heavier than sodium. Elements in multicomponent systems, such as alloys and minerals, and elements such as, W, Pt, Nb, Ta, Hf, Zr, and the rare earths, which are difficult to separate or determine by other methods, can usually be determined directly without special sample treatment. The method is rapid and precision is comparable to wet chemical analyses. It is applicable over the very wide concentration range from parts per 10,000 to 100 percent, and can be applied to the analysis of all kinds of samples- metals, drillings and thin films, powders, glasses, or liquids. The method is described and its advantages and limitations are discussed. Typical analyses are mentioned and sensitivity limits for determination of the various elements are illustrated as a guide to possible uses of X-ray spectrography.

Computer description APPR-1 simulator
The APPR-1 is a pressurized water reactor having a low specific heat fuel and a water primary coolant. The primary coolant loop delivers heat from the reactor to the steam generator. The secondary water in the steam generator is converted to steam and then taken to the turbine to drive an electrical generator. The simulation of this system is broken down into three primary areas: the neutron kinetics in the reactor which are necessary to generate the primary power function, the heat transfer in the reactor, and the heat transfer in the steam generator.

The Fabrication of a Plutonium Helix for a Doppler Experiment
A helix constructed of plutonium was made to test the Doppler temperature effect in ZPR-III. The helix, 1 inch in diameter and 6-1/4 inches long, contained 240 grams of delta-phase plutonium alloy encapsulated in titanium tubing. Four plutonium rods were extruded, joined together, and pushed into a titanium tube. This tube was swaged tightly over the plutonium rod, and the assembly was wound into a coil. Electrical leads to the coil were made by swaging copper tubing over the ends of the coil. The helix was tested by cycling about 500 times between 50°C and 190°C. The coil was heated with a current of 130 amperes and cooled with a blast of chilled helium. (1) Several helices of uranium(2) were cycled during the same tests. Despite the severity of the thermal cycles, the helices were undamaged.

Investigation of Uranium Deposits, Anderson Mine and Adjacent Properties, Yavapai County, Arizona
From abstract: A team consisting of R. A. Lindblom, S. A. Mayer, R. G. Young, W. L. Chenoweth, R. F. Droullard, and I. T. Fisk made a reexamination of the Anderson mine (Uranium Aire) of Interstate Oil and Development located near Wickenberg in Yavapai County, Arizona. The field examination was made from August 22, 1958 to September 2, 1958. This team was formed to resolve differences between company and AEC ore reserve estimates. A cooperative effort in which the company supplied labor, limited additional drilling and both parties were in attendance during the sampling resulted in the collection of additional data. Special attention was given to assessing the in-hole assaying with radiometric equipment by IOD and AEC, evaluation of tonnage factors, moisture content, continuity of ore, and current mapping of stripped and mined areas.

Gettering Hydrogen at Ultra-Low Pressures by Evaporated Metal Coatings
"Preliminary results are given for pumping neutral hydrogen gas in 1-second pulses by the gettering action of an evaporated coating of molybdenum. One second gas in-puts are observed at equivalent pumping speeds > 10-4 liters/second at 1 x 10-(-8) mm Hg in a 70-liter volume system. Base pressures <1 x 10-(-10) mm Hg are achieved by gettering with the static evaporated coating and pumping with a 4 in. oil diffusion pump simultaneously. Criteria for choice of gettering metal and a brief outline of pumping requirements for controlled fusion devices called Pyrotrons are included."
