Interview with Thomas P. Emery, a US Army WWII veteran from Solana Beach, California, who served as a pathfinder in the 6th Army Special Special Recon Unit. Emery discusses joining the Army and airborne training, assignment to G-2, scout and pathfinder training, attending OCS, deployment to New Guinea, formation of the Alamo Scouts, learning to live and fight in the jungle, his first mission, raids and harassing Japanese troops, traveling aboard the USS Missouri, and fighting in the Philippines.

The National Museum of the Pacific War presents an oral interview with Al Stevens. He graduated from Michigan State University in 1943 as a metallurgical engineer. He enlisted in the Navy in 1944 in Detroit, Michigan. He attended the Navy Electronics School at Harvard University as well as a specialized radar training program organized by MIT at the Harbor Building in Boston, Massachusetts. He received further training in radar countermeasures at Ocracoke Island, North Carolina. He served on the USS Wasatch (ACG-9). When the ship was anchored, he was assigned to deliver orders and mail. He describes the Operation Olympic portion of the plan to invade Japan. He was part of the force that occupied Wakanoura and Nagoya, Japan. He shares an anecdote about obtaining a Japanese sword as a souvenir in Nagoya. In North China he participated in the repatriation of the Japanese, Chinese, and Koreans. He wrote a book, ?Up Close and Personal,? about his World War II experiences.

In late 1944, early 1945 he was stationed in the Philippines with the 11th Airborne Division. They served in a traditional infantry role in the Philippines. His division participated in the Liberation of Manila in the spring of 1945. In August of 1945 they traveled into southern Japan as part of the occupation force. He was honorably discharged in 1946.

Letter sent from Mrs. F. M. Cochrane to Cecelia McKie thanking her for the message from her daughter, Mrs. Cadwallader, and stating they have had no word from her since Manila fell to the Japanese. She explains the names were twisted around in the letter, as she is Mrs. F.M. Cochrane, and her daughter is Mrs. Cadwallader. She states she is enclosing a newspaper clipping from the Charlotte, North Carolina Observer. Newspaper clipping from Charlotte, North Carolina Observer sent with letter from Mrs. F. M. Cochrane to Cecelia McKie titled 'Word Received from Prisoner: Colonel and Mrs. Cochran get message from daughter held by Japanese.' Envelope addressed to Mrs. W. L. McKie, Sacramento, California from Mrs. F. M. Cochran, Davidson, North Carolina. Reverse side of envelope has been removed by creator.
