Islamist Militancy in the Pakistan-Afghanistan Border Region and U.S. Policy
Increasing militant activity in western Pakistan poses three key national security threats: an increased potential for major attacks against the United States itself; a growing threat to Pakistani stability; and a hindrance of U.S. efforts to stabilize Afghanistan. This report addresses this issue at length. Pakistan’s Nuclear Weapons: Proliferation and Security Issues
This report outlines Pakistan's nuclear arsenal and continued fissile material production for weapons. Pakistan does not have a stated nuclear policy but its "minimum credible deterrent" is thought to be primarily a deterrent to Indian military action. Pakistani and US officials argue that Islamabad has taken a number of steps to prevent further proliferation of nuclear related technologies. Although instability in Pakistan has called the extent and durability of these reforms into question.

Terrorist Attacks in Mumbai, India, and Implications for U.S. Interests
This report examines the November 26, 2008 terrorist attack on Mumbai, India that left 174 people dead and hundreds more injured. Retelling of Baadil Jamaal
Recording of the shorter version of Laila Khan reciting the story of “Baadil Jamaal” in the Hunza dialect of Burushaski. In this popular story there is a king with seven sons, and he promises the sons that when they are to marry, he will let them marry whoever they wish. One son then travels to the side of a mountain where he lost his arrow, and meets an otherworldly woman named Baadil Jamaal. He insisted that he would not leave unless she married him, and he waited for a hundred years, and his family, missed him very much. One day Baadil Jamaal agreed to be the prince’s bride, and they went back to the kingdom, where the fairy restored the youth of the King and his wife.

Pakistan's Capital Crisis: Implications for U.S. Policy
This report discusses Pakistan's capital crisis. In the autumn of 2008, Pakistan was in urgent need of an estimated $4 billion in capital to avoid defaulting on its sovereign debt. The elected government of President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gillani sought short-term financial assistance from a number of sources, including the International Monetary Fund (IMF), China, and an informal group of nations (including the United States) known as the "Friends of Pakistan."
