This booklet is the fifth unit of a training course developed for Air Reserve personnel about countries and territories in the Pacific. This unit discusses the Trust Territory of the Pacific Islands (TTPI) and includes background information, review questions, and a list of readings for further study.

From introduction and purpose: This report describes the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI) as a fishing community. We have tried to strike a balance between the report being concise enough to be useful while covering the full range of topics and issues necessary to describe CNMI as a fishing community...This report will be updated periodically as social, economic, and environmental conditions change and fishermen and fisheries management adapt to those changes.

This report is one of a series that profiles the emergency management and homeland security statutory authorities of the 50 states, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, and three territories (American Samoa, Guam, and the U.S. Virgin Islands). Each profile identifies the more significant elements of state statutes, generally as codified. This report focuses on the Northern Mariana Islands.

This treaty governs mechanisms designed to ensure long-term conservation and sustainable use of certain species of fish, including tuna, swordfish, and marlin.

From introduction: The primary purpose of this report is to summarize available information on the nominal effort and the catch of tunas and billfishes by these foreign longline fleets in the U.S. FCZ (Fishery Conservation Zone) of the central and western Pacific during the period 1965-77.
