Retelling of the traditional narrative 'Mairangkoh and Sapinthei'
Hoihte Saihriem, aged 64, is a female speaker from Bahbahar village of Cachar district of Assam. She tells the story of a wicked lady who killed the wife of Sapinthei and later married her father. This wicked lady had a daughter named Mairangkoh. Together, they tortured Sapinthei and managed to kill her after she was married to a king.

Description of Saihriem marriage system
Chongpu Chongloi describes the marriage system of the Saihriem as practiced by their traditional forefathers. He is a native speaker of Saihriem from Noxa Tila, Cachar District, Assam, around 85 years old at the time of recording.
