This chapter describes aspects of establishing the collaborations to create The Portal to Texas History, including the background of the project, marketing the initiative to potential partners, partnership roles and agreements, preservation of all digital master files, technical infrastructure to support partnership models, promoting standards and good practice, funding issues and development, research studies to understand partner benefits and user groups, sustainability issues, and future research directions.

Compilation of presentations related to Scholarly Communications from UNT Libraries. The presentations introduce the UNT Scholarly Works repository, how to submit items to the repository, and how items are processed; the second portion of the presentation focuses on Open Access at UNT and the goal of Open Access movement; and the final presentation highlights how to approach copyright and authors' rights and options available to authors.

While authors can choose from a menu of editing and design options, all publications are made free to read online through the institutional repository. In this presentation, we reflect on our choices in designing the publishing service—such as not organizing peer review, delivering publications through the repository, requiring free public access but not Creative Commons licenses—and on what authors have chosen from the menu of options over the past two years.
