Enhanced Photoluminescence and Prolonged Carrier Lifetime through Laser Radiation Hardening and Self-Healing in Aged MAPbBr3 Perovskites Encapsulated in NiO Nanotubes

Article describes how organic-inorganic perovskites hold great promise as optoelectronic semiconductors for pure color light emitting and photovoltaic devices. This paper investigates the laser radiation hardening and self-healing-induced properties of aged MAPbBr3 perovskites encapsulated in NiO nanotubes (MAPbBr3@NiO) using photoluminescence (PL) and fluorescence lifetime imaging (FLIM). After deliberately subjecting the MAPbBr3@ NiO to atmospheric conditions for two years, the sample remains remarkably stable.

Uncoupling system and environment simulation cells for fast-scaling modeling of complex continuum embeddings (open access)

Uncoupling system and environment simulation cells for fast-scaling modeling of complex continuum embeddings

Article describes how continuum solvation models are becoming increasingly relevant in condensed matter simulations, allowing to characterize materials interfaces in the presence of wet electrified environments at a reduced computational cost with respect to all atomistic simulations. However, some challenges with the implementation of these models in plane-wave simulation packages still persists, and to address these challenges, the authors present the implementation of a double-cell formalism, in which the simulation cell used for the continuum environment is uncoupled from the one used for the electronic-structure simulation of the quantum-mechanical system.

Detection of Pancreatic Cancer miRNA with Biocompatible Nitrogen-Doped Graphene Quantum Dots

Article detects the presence of a specific pancreatic cancer-derived miRNA (pre-miR-132) using the fluorescence properties of biocompatible nitrogen-doped graphene quantum dots (NGQDs) synthesized using a bottom-up approach from a single glucosamine precursor. This non-invasive approach allows cancer-specific miRNA detection to facilitate early diagnosis of various forms of cancer.

Deep Minimum and a Vortex for Positronium Formation in Low-Energy Positron-Helium Collisions (open access)

Deep Minimum and a Vortex for Positronium Formation in Low-Energy Positron-Helium Collisions

This article finds a zero in the positronium formation scattering amplitude and a deep minimum in the logarithm of the corresponding differential cross section for positron–helium collisions for an energy just above the positronium formation threshold. Results show that there is a valley in the logarithm of the positronium formation differential cross section that includes the deep minimum and also a minimum in the forward direction.

Novel 2D Dynamic Elasticity Maps for Inspection of Anisotropic Properties in Fused Deposition Modeling Objects (open access)

Novel 2D Dynamic Elasticity Maps for Inspection of Anisotropic Properties in Fused Deposition Modeling Objects

Article introducing a novel ultrasonic non-destructive and non-invasive elastography method demonstrated to evaluate the mechanical properties of fused deposition modeling 3D printed objects using two-dimensional dynamical elasticity mapping. Based on the recently investigated dynamic bulk modulus and effective density imaging technique, an angle-dependent dynamic shear modulus measurement was performed to extract the dynamic Young’s modulus distribution of the FDM structures. The elastographic image analysis demonstrated the presence of anisotropic dynamic shear modulus and dynamic Young’s modulus existing in the fused deposition modeling 3D printed objects. The non-destructive method also differentiated samples with high contrast property zones from that of low contrast property regions. The angle-dependent elasticity contrast behavior from the ultrasonic method was compared with conventional and static tensile tests characterization. A good correlation between the nondestructive technique and the tensile test measurements was observed.

Persistent spin helix in Rashba-Dresselhaus ferroelectric CsBiNb2O7 (open access)

Persistent spin helix in Rashba-Dresselhaus ferroelectric CsBiNb2O7

Article reporting that CsBiNb₂O₇, a layered perovskite of Dion-Jacobson type, is a robust ferroelectric with sufficiently strong spin-orbit coupling and spin texture reversible by electric field. The study reveals that its topmost valence band's spin texture is quasi-independent from the momentum, as a result of the low symmetry of its ferroelectric phase. The peculiar spin-polarization pattern in the momentum space may yield the so-called “persistent spin helix,” a specific spin-wave mode which protects the spin from decoherence in the diffusive transport regime, potentially ensuring a very long spin lifetime in this material.

Influence of coherent population trapping on Raman scattering (open access)

Influence of coherent population trapping on Raman scattering

Article considering the Raman scattering in molecular media. Applying two laser fields in a two-photon resonance with vibrational transition, the authors study the role of rotational levels for excitation of vibrational coherence. It is shown that the molecular vibrational coherence strongly depends on the effect of coherent population trapping for rotational levels. The obtained results are important for applications of Raman spectroscopy to molecular detection in engineering, chemical, and biological applications.

Magnetobound positronium and protonium (open access)

Magnetobound positronium and protonium

This article investigates the formation of magnetobound positronium and protonium via classical trajectory simulations of binary point charge interactions in an external magnetic field. The results of computer simulations of the fully three-dimensional trajectories of classical and non-relativistic point charges with the same mass, equal charge magnitude, and opposite sign are reported. The simulations show the formation of magnetobound positronium and protonium. The results yield formation cross sections, which are compared to analytical expressions. Additionally, the results reveal that magnetobound states drift across magnetic field lines.

Artificially Structured Boundary for a high purity ion trap or ion source

This article proposes a plasma enclosed by an Artificially Structured Boundary (ASB) as an alternative to existing ion source assemblies. In accelerator applications, many ion sources can have a limited lifetime or frequent service intervals due to sputtering and eventual degradation of the ion source assembly. Ions are accelerated towards the exit canal of positive ion sources, whereas, due to the biasing scheme, electrons or negative ions are accelerated towards the back of the ion source assembly.

Phase space of positron trajectories exiting a charged particle source through a magnetic field point cusp

This article presents a configuration of magnetic fields using properties of cylindrically symmetric permanent magnets as a candidate to produce a high purity charged particle source or trap. Cylindrically symmetric hollow permanent magnets produce magnetic field point cusps on the axis of symmetry. A magnetic field point cusp reflects all particles that lie outside a narrow region of phase space, a region dependent on particle kinetic energies and on the magnetic field intensity.
