Metastability-assisted fatigue behavior in a friction stir processed dual-phase high entropy alloy (open access)

Metastability-assisted fatigue behavior in a friction stir processed dual-phase high entropy alloy

This article explores metastability-based high entropy alloy design which can open a new strategic path for designing high strength materials. However, high strength is always coupled with poor damage tolerance under cyclic loading conditions (fatigue). To overcome this drawback, the articles presents grain-refined Fe42Mn28Cr15Co10Si5 exhibiting significantly high fatigue strength as compared with leading transformation induced plasticity steels upon friction stir processing.

Effects of UV Stabilizers on Polypropylene Outdoors (open access)

Effects of UV Stabilizers on Polypropylene Outdoors

This article looks at hindered amine light stabilizers (HALSs) and nano ZnO were used to stabilize polypropylene (PP) film-based formulations that were exposed to ultraviolet (UV) light for different lengths of time, simulating the harsh outdoor weather of Dallas, Texas, USA. UV doses applied in our laboratory are 121 times larger than the UV dose provided by the sunlight in Texas. 15 different compositions were studied. The combination of HALSs and nano-ZnO stabilizers makes the PP films harder—which is important for some PP applications, such as toy manufacturing.

Corrosion Behavior of Selectively Laser Melted CoCrFeMnNi High Entropy Alloy

The article focuses on a study that widens the toolbox to manufacture HEAs with exceptional corrosion resistance by additive manufacturing. CoCrFeMnNi high entropy alloys (HEAs) were additively manufactured (AM) by laser powder bed fusion and their corrosion resistance in 3.5 wt% NaCl solution was studied by potentiodynamic polarization and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy tests. A systematic study of AM CoCrFeMnNi HEAs’ porosity under a wide range of laser processing parameters was conducted and a processing map was constructed to identify the optimal laser processing window for CoCrFeMnNi HEAs.
