This article analyzes the Association of Academic Health Sciences Libraries (AAHSL) member libraries’ COVID-19 LibGuides to determine volume and origin of links included. This is a manuscript version of the article. The article was published online November 17, 2022.

Data collected in order to analyze Association of Academic Health Sciences Libraries (AAHSL) member libraries’ COVID-19 LibGuides to determine quantity and origin of links included. The data set includes information on AAHSL member libraries, the stratified sample, and links/structure of applicable LibGuides.

This article presents a novel approach of introducing a weighted temporal feature to bias a topic clustering toward articles in a similar time frame, performed over a set of finance journal abstracts from 1974 to 2020 to demonstrate how time can be emphasized in trend detection. The authors detect trending finance topics that are not identifiable when we use a standard clustering approach with no temporal bias.

Data management plan for the grant, "Collaborative Research: Diversifying Human-Centered Data Science through the Research and Design of Ethical Games." This project studies collaborative learning in a virtual setting for groups of peers with conflicting methodological cultures and diverse backgrounds. An additional artifact of this two-year, interdisciplinary project will be a prototype of an educational game, targeted towards the underrepresented communities and the greater public, that will bring more people into critical conversations about the roles of AI and data science in our society. The primary aim of this research is the production of novel theories in learning sciences regarding collaborative learning in the face of diverse backgrounds and cultural norms.

Article on the development of a workflow process that can accommodate the range of different language depositors in the Computational Resource for South Asian Languages (CoRSAL). This presentation explores the variation in interlinear-glossed text (IGT) in 5 closely related South-Central Tibeto-Burman languages with verb stem alternation, reduplicated adverbial modifiers, and pre-verbal directionals. While IGT is a rich representation of language, IGT for even closely related languages can look markedly different due to individual linguists’ divergent analyses. In comparing the discrepancies between representations of such features, we gain insight into the underlying analytic thinking of the annotator to reexamine and improve analyses.

This is a part of preliminary work done to support a proposal for an Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) grant. It was presented at the 2021 Association for Library and Information Science Education (ALISE) Annual Conference held virtually September 20-24, 2021.

This article is from the 26th ACM Conference on Innovation and Technology in Computer Science Education and discusses the design, effectiveness, and curricular impacts of an introductory data science course focused on practical programming skills and allowing students to concurrently complete the course in Python, R, or MATLAB. Students indicated a preference for the multi-language course design and the course became the recommended first programming course for a newly developed and approved undergraduate data science majors.

This article presents findings from a series of related studies exploring aspects of Digital Humanities teaching, education, and research in iSchools, often in collaboration with other units and disciplines. Results provide a snapshot of the current state of digital humanities in iSchools which may usefully inform the design and evolution of new DH programs, degrees, and related initiatives.

This article focuses on citation recommendation in the related studies section by applying the term function of a citation context, potentially improving the efficiency of writing a literature review. The citation recommendation strategy can be helpful for valuable citation discovery, semantic scientific retrieval, and automatic literature review generation.

This article reports the first empirical investigation of various dimensions of organization and representation of recorded knowledge and information in language archives. The study used a combination of semi-structured interviews and content analysis. Results demonstrate that, while some of the phenomena related to organization of information in language archives are specific to these types of archives, others are more typical and have been addressed by libraries in past research and practice.

Data management plan for the grant "Raise Up Radio: Family and Youth Engagement in Library Supported Learning Via Radio." The University of North Texas and the University of Alabama, in partnership with the Pottsboro Area Library and the Tuscaloosa Public Library, will develop a program called "Raise Up Radio: Family and Youth Engagement in Library Supported Learning Via Radio" to address educational inequities that became even more pronounced during the COVID-19 pandemic and create a professional network of librarians who use radio broadcasts. Over two years, six libraries serving high-need rural communities in Texas and Alabama will each implement a total of four, five-week educational programs delivered over local radio stations. The program will leverage existing community resources to create accessible educational content through collaborative partnerships. It will connect libraries, museums, and educational institutions with students in rural communities through science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) content. Local youth and families will develop these new radio programs using best practices for equitable youth and family engagement in learning. Data management plan for the grant "School Librarians Facilitating the Success of English Language Learners." Grant for the University of North Texas Departments of Information Science, Learning Technologies, and Linguistics, in partnership with the International Association of School Librarians, to hold a forum about building the capacity of school librarians to provide services for English language learners (ELLs). The forum will convene contributors from the school library community and ELL stakeholders, such as linguists, ELL community members, public librarians, educational technologists, teachers, and school administrators to explore strategies and best practices for teaching ELLs.

Article discusses how, during the COVID-19 pandemic, US public health authorities and county, state, and federal governments recommended or ordered certain preventative practices, such as wearing masks, to reduce the spread of the disease. The purpose of this study was to understand the variations in public sentiment toward COVID-19 and the recommended or ordered preventive practices from the temporal and spatial perspectives, as well as how the variations in public sentiment are related to geographical and socioeconomic factors.
