This paper analyzes the relationship between subject terms -- both authorized terms from controlled vocabularies and free-text keywords -- used to succinctly describe the content of the electronic theses and dissertations (ETDs) and the search terms entered by users to discover and access the ETDs. Identification of search terms and comparison of search results with subject terms used in describing ETDs provides a basis for assessing the relative usefulness of controlled-vocabulary subject terms supplied by professional indexers and free-text keywords supplied by authors of ETDs in facilitating access to ETDs. Arguably, there has been a shift in the way users search, access, and use information resources.

Presentation exploring book digitization practices and standards and share how they are implemented by the UNT Digital Projects Lab. With a large number of books flowing into their department, the authors decided to conduct research on the methods of scanning using the equipment and software available to them. This presentation reports on their findings and what factors went into deciding what type of books get scanned where and how. Results include changes to local digitizing standards and clarified workflows based on the types of books to be scanned. The Chronicles of Oklahoma is a regional publication from the Oklahoma Historical Society that has been published since 1921. The UNT Digital Library is digitizing the back issues and making them available to the public through the digital library, The Gateway to Oklahoma History. The authors examine the consequences of current iniquities through the lens of self-determination theory (SDT).

This article discusses the use of network analysis through the creation Metadata Record Graphs to analyze the interconnectedness of subject and keywords in the University of North Texas Theses and Dissertations collection. The analysis compares overlap of controlled terms (Library of Congress Subject Headings) and uncontrolled terms (keywords), as well as the effects of basic format normalization (to simulate editing values for consistency) to evaluate how well subjects connect in the collection.

Article explores dynamic fusion models to find, on the fly, the model or combination of models that performs best on a variety of document types. The experimental results show that the approach that fuses different models outperforms individual models and other ensemble methods on three datasets.
