Response of Female Athletes to Twelve-Week Plyometric Depth-jump Training (open access)

Response of Female Athletes to Twelve-Week Plyometric Depth-jump Training

This study aimed to investigate the response of trained intercollegiate and national level female athletes to twelve week depth-jump (DJ) training performed twice weekly with forty repetitions of DJs performed each training session. Results of statistical analysis revealed that only the .3 and .5 meter experimental group improved significantly on VJ ability. However, there was no significant increase in LS for either experimental group compared to the control group. It was concluded that DJ training from .3 and .5 meter heights is more optimal for increasing VJ ability of trained female athletes compared to the 0.75 and 1.1 meter heights as recommended by Verhoshanski for trained male athletes. It was also concluded that DJ training has the the ultimate purpose of developing explosive leg power not leg strength.

A Comparison of the Educational Opportunities of the Whites and the Negroes of Walker County (open access)

A Comparison of the Educational Opportunities of the Whites and the Negroes of Walker County

This thesis is written on the subject, state fully, "A Comparison of the Education Opportunities of the Whites and Negores of Walker County." The study is based, as far as possible, on a per-pupil comparison. The writer found Walker County an excellent county in which to make such a study for the simple reason that there was not another county in the state of Texas where there was such an equal balance of negro and white approved scholastics. The counties of Harrison, Marion, San Jacinto, Walker, and Waller were the only ones in the state of Texas that had more approved negro scholastics than white approved scholastics. In Walker county during the year 1937-1938 there were 2,498 white scholastics and 2,505 negro scholastics. This shows that there were only seven more negro approved scholastics than white approved scholastics.

A Program of Education to Fit the Needs of the Mexican Children in Wichita Falls, Texas (open access)

A Program of Education to Fit the Needs of the Mexican Children in Wichita Falls, Texas

This thesis is a report on the study of the educational opportunities, problems, and handicaps which are peculiar to the environment of the Mexican child in Wichita Falls, Texas. The purpose of this study: It is a known a fact that the educational opportunities afforded the Mexican children in Wichita Falls, Texas are inferior to those afforded the white children or Negro children. The reason for this is the unsuccessful attempt to intersperse the Mexican child with the white children after they have completed the third grade. Naturally, because of racial, differences, aptitudes, and inherent characteristics, the Mexican children are at a distinct disadvantage in attempting to compete in an educational manner with their white brother. Much has been done toward curriculum revision and in the study of needed changes in the public school program for the white children, but very little has been done to find the needs or to meet the needs of the Mexican children, although he, too, is an American citizen in most cases and is subject to the same rights, privileges, and educational advantages as the white children.

The Present Status and Need of an Adequate Music Program for the First Seven Grades in the Rural Schools of Coryell County, Texas, with a Proposed Music Program

This study is designed to reveal the existing status of public school music in the rural elementary schools of Coryell County, Texas. It is also intended to serve as a tool for the teachers in those schools as they formulate and initiate their music programs. This study also makes the following recommendations: Every rural school in the county should make a close study of the music set-up. Every rural school should initiate a music program that will measure up to acceptable criteria and will meet the needs of the school in order to give equal musical opportunities to all pupils. If there are no funds available for the employment of a music supervisor, all teachers who teach music should have training in public school music in order to be most efficient. It is expedient that all music teachers hold a college degree with a major or minor in music in order to meet the requirements made by the state and to become better qualified for teaching. All rural schools should be equipped with a piano, victrola, and a radio in order that a well rounded music program may be carried out. Music textbooks should be made available for each child …

To Determine a Plan for the Equalization of Educational Opportunities in Wheeler County, Texas

This study is made to determine the educational inequalities that exist in the schools of Wheeler County and to set up a plan that will help to equalize the educational opportunities for all the children in the county, on a basis well within its financial ability. The study consists of three phases of the problem of equalizing educational opportunities in the schools of Wheeler County. The first will consist of a study of the educational conditions of the schools, based upon the general population trends, scholastic trends, the per pupil load of each elementary classroom, the subject-pupil load of each high school teacher, and the qualification of the teachers according to college work. The second will consist of a financial survey of the schools based upon assessed valuations, tax rates, cost per scholastic, and outstanding bonded indebtedness. The third will be the formulating of a plan for the equalization of educational opportunities based upon the findings of the educational and financial surveys.

Consumer-Buying Objectives in Homemaking Courses in High Schools of the Southern Region

For the past few years the homemaking courses has shifted its emphasis from cooking and sewing skills to the solving of managerial problems of the individual and the family of today. Each person who is taking an active part in living is constantly purchasing and consuming goods and services and must realize that his welfare depends upon the relation between the satisfactions that he receives from the things he buys and the price that he pays for them. Since every one must purchase goods, the high school student needs to learn how to buy wisely. The executive committees of the homemaking divisions in the different states which are revising the courses of study realize that management of money from the consumer-buying view point is important and needs a place in meeting the needs and interests of the high school student of today. The problem in this study is to determine the adequacy of the objectives on consumer-buying in the homemaking courses in high schools of the Southern Region. The History of Education of Wise County

The purpose of this study was to collect, organize, and present information pertaining to the development of the educational system of Wise County, Texas. While there has been much interest in the collecting of material and information that relates to the early history, as well as much knowledge of the historical development, data concerning the educational progress of the county have been neglected by historians. It is important that this neglect be remedied. Since the history of education is of a professional nature, the collection, the preservation, and the interpretation of the historical information may be considered the special duty of the persons who are in some way connected with the educational system

This study attempts to determine what use should be made of art metal work in the junior high school. Development of Vocational Rehabilitation in Texas (open access)

Development of Vocational Rehabilitation in Texas

The purpose of this study has been to trace the development of the program of Vocational Rehabilitation for disabled individuals administered by the State Board for Vocational Education from 1929-1949. It has included a review of the historical background and shown the various rehabilitation services offered. This thesis is an attempt to make a careful study of the establishment, growth and development of vocational rehabilitation in Texas. It is further limited to the rehabilitation efforts of the Rehabilitation Division of the State Board for Vocational Education exclusive of the rehabilitation of the blind and the work of the Crippled Children's Division. the rehabilitation or the blind is excluded because it is generally accepted that the problems in connection with the rehabilitation of the blind are peculiar to the blind. The work of the Crippled Children's Division is excluded even though the services rendered by that Division were administered by the Rehabilitation Division until July 1, 1945 because theses have been written tracing the …
