Evaluation of a Chicken 600K SNP genotyping array in non-model species of grouse (open access)

Evaluation of a Chicken 600K SNP genotyping array in non-model species of grouse

This article tested the cross-species application of the Affymetrix 600K Chicken SNP array in five species of North American prairie grouse (Centrocercus and Tympanuchus genera). This study study provided evidence for successful cross-species application of the chicken SNP array in grouse which diverged ca. 37 mya from the chicken lineage. As far as the authors are concerned, this is the first reported application of a SNP array in non-passerine birds, and it demonstrates the feasibility of using commercial SNP arrays in research on non-model bird species.

Interactions between mitoNEET and NAF-1 in cells (open access)

Interactions between mitoNEET and NAF-1 in cells

This article uses yeast two-hybrid to demonstrate through vivo bimolecular fluorescence complementation (BiFC), direct coupling analysis (DCA), RNA-sequencing, ROS and iron imaging, and single and double shRNA lines with suppressed mNT, NAF-1 and mNT/NAF-1 expression, that mNT and NAF-1 directly interact in mammalian cells and could function in the same cellular pathway.

Opposing effects of MYZUS PERSICAE-INDUCED LIPASE 1 and jasmonic acid influence the outcome of Arabidopsis thaliana–Fusarium graminearum interaction

Article presents research that shows Arabidopsis MYZUS PERSICAE-INDUCED LIPASE 1 (MPL1), via its influence on limiting jasmonic acid (JA) accumulation, restricts Fusarium graminearum (Fg) infection.

Targeted Metabolic Profiles of the Leaves and Xylem Sap of Two Sugarcane Genotypes Infected with the Vascular Bacterial Pathogen Leifsonia xyli subsp. xyli (open access)

Targeted Metabolic Profiles of the Leaves and Xylem Sap of Two Sugarcane Genotypes Infected with the Vascular Bacterial Pathogen Leifsonia xyli subsp. xyli

This article identifies discriminant metabolites between a resistant (R) and a susceptible (S) sugarcane variety at the early stages of pathogen colonization (30 and 120 days after inoculation—DAI) by untargeted and targeted metabolomics of leaves and xylem sap using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) and liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS). The data represent a valuable resource of potential biomarkers for metabolite-assisted selection of resistant varieties to RS.
