Burkhart informs Subject that his application for Commutation of Sentence has been referred by the Governor to the Adult Authority for review and recommendation. The letter advises of assistance to be given from their office in preparing said application and provides a list of requirements pertaining to the preparation of the application.

A letter written to Mr. T. N. Carswell, 5th Division Commander, American Legion, Abilene, Texas, from Arthur Sitas and Josh Lewis, The American Legion, Jas. J. Goodfellow Post No. 32, San Angelo, Texas, dated October 31, 1942. Sitas and Lewis issues an invitation to T. N. and Mrs. Carswell to attend their Armistice Day celebration in San Angelo. Carswell handwrites that he answered on November 7, 1942 offering his regrets due to his being scheduled to be in Austin.

A letter written to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Abilene, Texas from Boone Powell, Jr., Assistant Administrator, Hendrick Memorial Hospital dated December 31, 1964. Powell expresses his appreciation to the trustees for the gift of the suit.

A letter written to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Abilene, Texas from Byron Bryant, Alumni Affairs, Hardin-Simmons University dated January 31, 1969. The Alumni Association makes a request of Carswell to be the permanent representative of the Class of 1911-12 of which he was the student association president and, also, a member of the Alumni Association Executive board. Notation handwritten by Carswell and dated February 4, 1969 indicates he did not respond to this letter.

A letter written to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Abilene, Texas from Byron Bryant, Director, The Division of Public Relations, Hardin-Simmons University dated July 31, 1959. Bryant expresses his appreciation for the contribution of time and effort made by Carswell in the building campaign meeting.

A letter to T. N. Carswell from Claude Lloyd, Exeter, New Hampshire, dated October 31, 1945. Lloyd acknowledges his receipt of the letter from Carswell stating that he knew it was from him by the handwriting. He discourses on his view of the foundation of friendship, advises that George Paxton, "whom I had not seen since we took our degrees together down at Yale in 1925", and he had visited without reservation and gives his assurance that whatever had happened "during the Abilene debacle" had not changed Paxton. Lloyd mentions the names of other friends including Mildred Paxton, Professor Mullins, Tot, Gene Holman. He describes the West Texas view he longs for and summarizes his life in New Hampshire for the last twenty years discussing his work history, his wife, children and house and other members of his family living in various towns in Texas. He advises that he will write to Dr. Jellinek, as Carswell suggested, and although he has several friends still at Yale, he does not know Jellinek.

A letter written to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Post Commander, Parramore Post No. 55 [57], Abilene, Texas, from James C. Styron, Colonel, G.S.C, Chief of Staff, Camp Barkeley, Texas, dated March 31, 1941. Styron acknowledges his receipt of and accepts Carswell's invitation for the 45th Division to participate in the Army Day Program.

A letter written to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Abilene, Texas from D. Chenoweth?, San Angelo Standard-Times, San Angelo, Texas, dated May 31, 1945. Chenoweth replies to Carswell expressing his appreciation for the letter regarding his 25 years with the Standard-Times.

A letter written to Mr. T.N. Carswell, Abilene, Texas from E. M. Collier, Superintendent, Hendrick Memorial Hospital dated December 31, 1943. Collier expresses his appreciation for the tie given to him by Carswell for Christmas. He advises Carswell that they miss seeing him at their church, however, they know he is doing a good job.

A letter written to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Abilene, Texas, from Ed Riedel, Act. Dept. Adjutant, American Legion, Department of Texas, Austin, Texas, dated August 31, 1942. Riedel acknowledges the receipt of the check which he used for the room deposit but states the need to make the checks separately. Handwritten postscript by Riedel advises that a cap has been ordered.

A letter written to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Chairman, Taylor County Parole Board, from G. R. Klopfenstein, Chief, Bureau of Probation and Parole, Columbus, Ohio, dated January 31, 1957. Klopfenstein expresses his appreciation for the willingness of Carswell to assist in the supervision of Subject 95040 in the case that Subject is not returned to the Ohio Penitentiary.

Flemming expresses his appreciation to Carswell for his letter recommending Dr. Rupert N. Richardson for appointment to the new Administration.

Woods expresses her appreciation for the surprise from Carswell and his remembering them and that they enjoyed the candy and his visit. She expresses appreciation which was also sent from Madge [Madge Czichos] and her family.

A letter written to Mr. and Mrs. Carswell [T. N. Carswell and Byrdie Carswell] from Mrs. Julie McLeod, Memphis, Tennessee, dated December 31, 1969. McLeod expresses her appreciation for the lovely letter and her hope that Mrs. Carswell is better. She requests that Carswell please find any small memento that they both have had since the time she has known him and to mail it to her. She discusses her desire to move back to Texas advising that she has applied for a transfer after having worked for the Treasury Department for thirty years, that she still misses Orville and that Mark is at home off-and-on.

Williams expresses his appreciation for the nice message from Carswell, for the honor to be permitted to serve Abilene and for the opportunity to renew their friendships of several years back.

Kennedy confirms that the forms and reports necessary for the sponsorship of Carswell's agency by Pioneer Air Lines have been completed.

She advises that the Board reviewed the case and declined to make any recommendation but advises that the case for Subject is to be reviewed again in June.
