Willis mentions that the mail is getting through again, and regrets hearing that Waco has been so hot recently. He recalls that dove season opens on September 1st, and he wishes he could go. He also mentions that he's talked to a friend who recently got married, and Willis doesn't think his friend was in the right position to get married. He's gone swimming a lot recently, and he hasn't gotten to see Robert, Jr. yet.

He urges his mother to get well, saying that he hopes he will be home that year. He dwells on the weather for a while, and tells them not to send him his bathing suit as he already has one.
