A letter addressed to Miss Janice Jennings, Abilene, Texas from T. N. Carswell, Abilene, Texas, dated October 30, 1941. Carswell explains to Jennings the date of October 27 as Navy Day and of the importance of that observance, but of even more importance was that the day was her birthday.

A letter written to Mr. Ralph Lee, Colorado City, Texas, from T. N. Carswell, dated October 30, 1941. Carswell confirms that Lt. Col. William O. Perry of the 89th Brigade will speak on Friday, November 7, offers his congratulations to Lee and discloses the details of the event.

A letter written to Dr. Hu Shih, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, Chinese Embassy, Washington, D. C., from T. N. Carswell, dated March 30, 1942. Carswell advises Shih that The First Baptist Church in Abilene is to receive from its members a gift offering for hungry China noting that a brief statement from Shih, dealing with the conditions in his country, would be genuinely helpful in the presentation of the appeal.

A letter written to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Abilene, Texas, from J. D. Sandefer, Jr., Breckenridge, Texas dated May 30, 1942. Sandefer expresses his appreciation for the note from Carswell and the wires and phone calls from his friends in Abilene but advises that he has never given any serious thought to getting into politics and has "no intention whatever of making the race".

A letter written to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Abilene, Texas, from Dan Moody, Austin, Texas, dated July 30, 1942. Moody acknowledges his receipt of the letter from Carswell and advises that he did not regret that he made the campaign, only the results. He expresses his appreciation for what Carswell and his other friends in Abilene did for him.

A letter written to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Commander, 5th Division, American Legion, from Chas. Whitacre, Commander 19th District, American Legion, Lubbock, Texas, dated October 30, 1942. Whitacre expresses his appreciation for the kind letter from Carswell and notes that the sympathy from their many friends has made their loss easier and that they have been able, so far, to obtain the materials necessary to replace the home. Whitacre suggests as Chairman for the following committees; A. C. Jackson of Lubbock for the Transportation Committee, W. R. Weaver of Spur for the Float Committee and Charnell Jobe of Lamesa.

A letter addressed to the State Director of Selective Service, Austin 17, Texas, from T. N. Carswell, CAS, Del Rio, Texas dated March 30, 1944. Carswell advises of the resignation of the chairman and another board member and of an insufficient number of induction or preinduction calls for the area. The clerk advised of her inability to get the board to classify and reclassify a sufficient number of men who could be called. Carswell explains that the board members operate ranches many miles outside of Del Rio and lambing season is on making it inconvenient for a special meeting. Their attitudes seemed to be all right but he advises, in his opinion, that there is no cooperation between the board and the clerk.

Carswell advises of the concern of the board as to the plight of the stockman in their county and the need for manpower for both the Home front and War Service.
