Sandefer expresses his appreciation for the note from Carswell and the wires and phone calls from his friends in Abilene but advises that he has never given any serious thought to getting into politics and has "no intention whatever of making the race".

A letter written to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Abilene, Texas from J. D. Sandefer, Jr., Breckenridge, Texas dated August 30, 1948. Sandefer expresses his appreciation for the work done by Carswell on the invitation and program. He makes two suggestions regarding the program. One suggestion is to include the names of Boyd, Porter, Becker and Perini on the program which will increase attendance at the memorial service. Sandefer then confides that he has arranged for the Railroad Commission to have their October statewide hearing in Abilene on the morning of the 13th which will assure them of an outstanding group of operators to be present for the memorial service.

Reiff will be formally presented to Board members at the annual Fall meeting of the Hardin-Simmons University Board of Trustees.

A letter written to Dr. Hu Shih, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, Chinese Embassy, Washington, D. C., from T. N. Carswell, dated March 30, 1942. Carswell advises Shih that The First Baptist Church in Abilene is to receive from its members a gift offering for hungry China noting that a brief statement from Shih, dealing with the conditions in his country, would be genuinely helpful in the presentation of the appeal.

A letter written to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Abilene, Texas, from W. R. White, Pastor, First Baptist Church, Austin 21, Texas dated January 30, 1948. White expresses his appreciation for the letter from Carswell concerning his new relationship with Baylor University. "I trust that I may render the greatest service of my life through this new position".

A letter addressed to the State Director of Selective Service, Austin 17, Texas, from T. N. Carswell, CAS, Del Rio, Texas dated March 30, 1944. Carswell advises of the resignation of the chairman and another board member and of an insufficient number of induction or preinduction calls for the area. The clerk advised of her inability to get the board to classify and reclassify a sufficient number of men who could be called. Carswell explains that the board members operate ranches many miles outside of Del Rio and lambing season is on making it inconvenient for a special meeting. Their attitudes seemed to be all right but he advises, in his opinion, that there is no cooperation between the board and the clerk.

A letter written to parolee in Abilene, Texas, from E. A. Burkhart, Executive Secretary, Adult Authority, Sacramento, California, dated November 30, 1953. Burkhart advises Subject A-9803 of the referral of his application by the Governor to the Adult Authority for review but that the parole time served is not sufficent to evidence complete rehabilitation making a favorable recommendation doubtful. He advises of enclosed instructions which outlines the items required to make application for pardon and executive clemency.

A letter addressed to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Chairman, Taylor County Parole Board, from a parolee/inmate, Stillwater, Minnesota dated December 30, 1953. Subject 17671 [108,345] acknowledges receipt of a "most welcomed and encouraging letter" from Carswell regarding actions taken by The Board of Pardons and Paroles. Subject expresses appreciation for the support shown by Carswell.
