Russell acknowledges receipt of the letter from Carswell recommending Mr. E. D. Thomas for mail carrier and informs Carswell that he had already made recommendation of Mr. Strawn for the transfer, his being a disabled war veteran. He also received Carswell's telegram in regard to a bill to continue the Dies Committee of which he is heartily in favor.

Carswell expresses his appreciation for the compliment to him by Hanford requesting that Carswell ask for the appointment for the inspection of his units.

De Long replies to Carswell's request for a definition of Americanism by enclosing excerpts from an address by De Long titled "I Am An American Because I Believe." Typewritten on Northwest Nazarene College letterhead bearing HOWARD BOND watermark.

Murray advises that the letter from Carswell was received in Colonel McCormick's absence and gives his assurance that it will be brought to McCormick's attention immediately upon his return.
