Ruiz discusses his family history, growing up, school in Kingsville, local relations between Mexicans and white people, high school football, playing for North Texas State, becoming a coach for elementary school, joining the Job Corps, teaching inmates, working with school districts on desegregation in Texas, and work on various federal education programs in Washington with an emphasis on Hispanic communities and cooperation with Mexico.
