Letter from Truett Latimer to Clive Pierce discussing House Bill 421/Senate Bill 230, which would authorize the issuance of school district refunding bonds at the maximum interest rates allowed by the constitution. Latimer writes that the bill would not help Pierce because the bonds for Taylor County were already authorized at the maximum interest rate of 5% during an election in 1949. He also mentions that the interest rate cannot be raised after this election and the bonds cannot be replaced until 1971, when they will become optional.

Letter from Truett Latimer to Mr. and Mrs. C. B. Ward discussing House Bill 714. Latimer writes that the bill no longer requires groceries to be sold at 6% above wholesale prices and has been rewritten so that grocery stores may not limit the number of goods they sell below costs. He says that he supports the bill in its new form.

A letter addressed to the Secretary of State, Austin, Texas (Attn: Pauline Kirk), from T. N. Carswell, Chairman, Taylor County Parole Board, dated April 28, 1951. Carswell advises that he has enclosed a report from Subject A 9803. Carswell takes responsibility regarding the tardiness of the paperwork and discusses the request made by Subject for the balance of his funds which are to be used for business plans of which Carswell approves.

A letter written to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Abilene, Texas, from John Ben Shepperd, Attorney at Law, Austin, Texas, dated April 28, 1952. Shepperd announces that he is leaving the Secretary of State's office on May 1st and is seeking a promotion to the Attorney Generalship of Texas advising that this will be his first political race and, therefore, sincerely needs and wants Carswell's "help, counsel and active support".

A postcard from Pat McCarran, United States Senate, Committee on the Judiciary, addressed to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Abilene, Texas, postmarked WASHINGTON, D. C. APR 28 1952. The reverse side includes a printed form letter by The United States Senate, Committee on the Judiciary. "This acknowledges receipt of your recent communication concerning a nomination pending before the United States Senate Judiciary Committee or a Subcommittee thereof." Explanation regarding the procedure concerning filing communications into the nominee's file and sending a printed form to assure the sender of the receipt of the communication, in order that the file will be complete and available at all times for the study of the committees.

A form letter from Allan Shivers, Austin, Texas, dated September 28, 1956. Shivers announces that he will support President Eisenhower, again, and do all he can toward his re-election advising that he enclosed a copy of his statement that was issued. He discourses on the privilege of voting and the reasons for his vote for Eisenhower over Stevenson. Enclosure includes a statement by the Governor, dated September 18, 1956. Announcement and explanation regarding his vote and support for President Eisenhower for re-election: "A brainwashing campaign is being waged against Texas voters, to convince them that the party is the most important issue -- not the candidate. This campaign is being conducted by persons who hold positions of party power and who want to strengthen and perpetuate themselves in those positions. Political parties are important, but they are a means to an end -- not the end itself."

A letter written to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Abilene, Texas, from Dick West, Assistant Editor, Editorial Page, The Dallas Morning News, dated December 28, 1959. West expresses his appreciation for Carswell's kind letter of December 24 requesting he write again, even if he disagrees, and express his opinion.

Carswell, Chairman, Taylor County Parole Board, from the Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles (by Sarah Landes, Supervisor, Parole Division), Austin, Texas, dated May 28, 1956. Landes refers to Discharge Certificates for Subject No. 130,969 and advises of the date of discharge of May 7, 1956.

A letter written to a parolee in Abilene, Texas from E. A. Burkhart, Executive Secretary, Adult Authority, Sacramento 14, California, dated January 28, 1952. Burkhart acknowledges receipt of two questionnaires completed by Subject and other papers, all found to be satisfactory, and assumes an Affidavit of Publication will be sent at the expiration of the 30 day period. He expresses his appreciation for the promptness of Subject in attending to the details of the matter.

A letter addressed to the Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles, from T. N. Carswell, Chairman, Taylor County Parole Board, dated May 28, 1953. Carswell makes an appeal for Subject's release from parole and, in addition, a recommendation for restoration.

Confirmation of a Gift subscription to Miss Susan Myrl Stoker, Abilene, Texas. Handwritten note to Ideals from T. N. Carswell requests spelling correction of name. The reverse side includes company form letter thanking the customer for the order and an advisement regarding records of purchase.

A letter written to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Abilene Machine Company, from R. D. Hill, Bend, Oregon, dated July 28, 1950. Hill explains that an enclosed C/C [cashier's check] is to reimburse for the rental on P. O. Box 1032. Hill outlines his business travel itinerary and monologues on politics advising that the recent "hostile involvings" may retard business progress. "It might be that we presently have a fully DEVELOPED Kingfish 'Huey Long' set-up?" Hill handwrites postcript at bottom of page sending regards to all. Notation at top of page indicates a reply by Carswell on October 17, 1950.

A letter written to Mr. Carswell, from R. D. Hill, Los Angeles 5, California, dated November 28, 1950. Hill confirms they are now operating in New Mexico and should be able to put the operation on a paying basis regardless of idiotic political doings, that the LLIHEDRA CORPORATION will hold controlling interest and mentions the use of the thousand dollars that Carswell gave to him. Handwritten postscript at left side of page expresses appreciation for the inclusion of Miss Hatchett and gives regards.
