Nimitz also mentions looking forward to the Army-Navy football game in Philadelphia later in the year and expresses relief at learning to sail cutters instead of having to row. He closes by indicating he has his textbooks but no time to study.

Letter from Agnes Langley Niernberger to her family discussing daily life sailing to the Philippine Islands. She hopes that they will be finished sailing soon. She sleeps on the tennis deck and has gotten so used to being rained out that she covers her head and falls back asleep. Agnes spends her time with Dienst and Baird, who she mentions were married before leaving Topeha. They occasionally see the U.S. Orchestra and movies and there are always song-fests in the evenings.

He discusses his childhood and growing up during the Great Depression and what led him to join the Us Naval Aviation program. He describes his experiences in flight school, basic training and fighting in the Pacific Theatre during World War Two.

The National Museum of the Pacific War presents an oral interview with Geroge Medcalf from Greensville, South Carolina. He discusses his experience in training in Camp Mcoy in Wisconsin and meeting his wife there. He also discusses his time in the Second Infantry Division with the 38th Regiment, Company C, preparing for the Normandy Invasion. Mr. Medcalf also relays how he had to take over command of his Company during the invasion when he was injured by flying shrapnel and sent back to England for recuperation. He shares a story of how while advancing on Leipzig, Germany he was saved from German artillery fire when his sergeant offered him a piece of candy moving him away from the line of fire. The war ended while Mr. Medcalf was in Czechoslovakia, and after the war he received a purple heart and a cluster.
