McCarter and Reynolds write that they have worked with SAMA since the museum educators attended a Marcus-funded advocacy workshop and believe that their proposal is consistent and similar to NTIEVA's efforts and support their proposal.

Duke appreciates the interest in Hopper sharing her work with the Center, however, the Center is not able to endorse the product. Abel makes a list of issues that need to be discussed and would like to meet up with Davis to discuss them.

Rosenberg notes that there have been new developments with the NTIEVA program and is hesitant using a proposal from the FY95 year, and so to proceed with the review process they need to submit a proposal that is up to date. The meeting will be held at the Amon Carter Museum in Fort Worth with Jan Muhlert as chair of the Advisory Committee. Davis and McCarter have enclosed an agenda for the meeting which will go over a number of topics. Photocopy of a letter from Bill McCarter and Nancy Cason, North Texas Institute for Educators on the Visual Arts, to Chad Woolery, Deputy Superintendent of Dallas ISD. Appreciating the concern shown by the DISD's administration and the school board about preserving the visual arts program in Dallas Public Schools. McCarter and Cason write that Dallas is one of six consortium districts participating in the North Texas Institute for Educators on the Visual Arts, NTIEVA, program. NTIEVA provides intensive summer institute training in discipline-based art education for elementary principals, art specialists, classroom teachers, and museum educators, while also assisting the implementation of integrative art programs during the school year. Public schools such as, T.D. Marshall, Colonial Learning Center, Lida Hooe, Maple Lawn and Sidney Lanier have sent teams to the summer institute program, along with other schools in attendance as well. McCarter and Cason finish the letter with how successful their institute is, writing that they've served a total of twenty elementary schools, impacting 500 teachers and 12,500 students, and that they're excited about their partnership with Dallas.

NTIEVA feels Tallas' well-designed lesson will serve as an inspiring model for others and hoping Tallas will contact them soon with permission.

McCarter writes that because the evaluation was received at such an early date they were able to put into action many of the suggested recommendations and observations made and have begun the development of Leadership seminars which will allow NTIEVA to train the future trainers.

In regards to NTIEVA's participation in Westide Community Schools - Prairie Visions Art and Technology Integration Project. Davis writes that as one of the Getty Regional Institutes, NTIEVA would be involved in Year IV and participate in the projects components such as the curriculum development, instruction strategies, developing electronic portfolios and other computer-based education projects. In the rest of the letter Davis writes about their other projects with the Dallas Museum of Art and Prairie Vision for the past decade and the strides they've made towards their goals.

An information release document in regards to six metroplex elementary schools plus thirty other schools nationwide were selected to participate as Arts Partner Schools in a $15 million experiment to reform education. The six schools will work with art educators at the University of North Texas, announced this month by the Annenberg Foundation, the Getty Education Institute for the Arts and the National Arts Education Consortium.

Wilson writes that his suggestions he had offered back in December remain the same except he added one new suggestion. Wilson states that in the report Davis and McCarter will find issues that have presented themselves in the relationship between DBAE and other ares of the curriculum. A memo from Jack Davis, co-director of North Texas Institute for Educators on the Visual Arts, to Vicki Rosenberg, program officer at Getty Center for Education in the Arts, The memo is in regards to the idea of inviting M'Lou Bancroft, Executive Director of the Marcus Foundation and Carolyn Clark, a board members, to a dinner in October. Davis writes that for the Austin conference it would be a good idea to invite Melba Davis Whatley, the chair of the Marcus Foundation Board and her husband to one or more sessions.

An abstract for the North Texas Regional Institute for Educators on the Visual Arts, with the intention of inviting corporations and private foundations in North Texas to join with the Getty Center for Education in the Arts, the University of North Texas to innovate and implement a education reform for discipline-based arts. The abstract goes into details about what NTIEVA hopes to achieve through their program, wanting to tackle visual literacy, critical criticism and language among elementary and secondary students. A letter from William McCarter, co-director to North Texas Institute for Educators on the Visual Arts, to Vicki Rosenberg, program officer for the Getty Center for Education in the Arts. The letter is in regards to prior correspondence in regards to Brent Wilson's evaluation on the institute. McCarter appreciates the evaluation and they have already how they have adjusted their activities based on the recommendations. However, there are some criticism to Wilson' evaluation and McCarter feels him and his team have more experience when it comes to specific areas. Mary Copeland has been chosen to participate in the University of North Texas Marcus Fellows Program that helps promote art education throughout the state of Texas. The Edward and Betty Marcus foundation has funded nearly $600,000 to the NT Marcus Fellows Program for graduate students enrolled at UNT to develop innovative ways to teach art and art appreciation.
