Breaking Down the Book: Literature Review and Practice of Book Digitization Methods [VRA 2023]

Presentation exploring book digitization practices and standards and share how they are implemented by the UNT Digital Projects Lab. With a large number of books flowing into their department, the authors decided to conduct research on the methods of scanning using the equipment and software available to them. This presentation reports on their findings and what factors went into deciding what type of books get scanned where and how. Results include changes to local digitizing standards and clarified workflows based on the types of books to be scanned. It was presented at the 2023 Visual Resources Association Conference held in San Antonio, Texas.

Article describes how conventional macromechanical tests provide limited insights into complex hierarchical deformation behavior of a transformative high entropy alloy (HEA). In this work, a high throughput microstructure-micromechanical correlative study is presented by combining high-resolution nanoindentation, site-specific microscopy, and Gaussian mixture model (GMM) clustering.

A content analysis of research on technology use for teaching mathematics to students with disabilities: word networks and topic modeling

Authors of article conduct a content analysis of research on technology use for teaching mathematics to students with disabilities. They applied word networks and structural topic modeling of 488 studies published from 1980 to 2021. Results showed that the words “computer” and “computer-assisted instruction” had the highest degree of centrality in the 1980s and 1990s, and “learning disability” was another central word in the 2000s and 2010s.
