LaMaster requests that Carswell and Judge Ely attend the meeting.

Westfull requests a statement from Carswell to vouch for his integrity. In a postscript, he requests that Carswell send the original to Roy E. Mayes, President of the Carthage Marble Corp and the copy to him. Carswell makes note that he answered as requested in as helpful a way as he knew how.

Davis expresses his appreciation to Carswell for the information contained in his letter; he compares Carswell's resolutions regarding "the work" to his own in 1935 and points out how those views compare with the current incumbent and Dr. McConnell. He then describes the work required by him "to get things in shape for some one else to carry the work on".

A letter written to a parolee in the Ohio Penitentiary, Columbus, Ohio from G. R. Klopfenstein, Chief (by R. N. McMichael, Placement Supervisor), Bureau of Probation and Parole, Columbus 15, Ohio, dated October 26, 1954. McMichael advises Subject 95040 of the approval of his release on parole and instructs him to report to Mr. T. N. Carswell.

A letter written to a parolee in El Paso, Texas, from T. N. Carswell, Chairman, Taylor County Parole Board, dated December 26, 1956. Carswell acknowledges receipt of letter from Subject advising that the transfer has been completed and closes by offering his hope that Subject will be "better pleased" in El Paso.

Carswell reports to Shivers concerning the background of Subject No. 121,140 explaining the value in the knowledge of the background of and gaining the respect, confidence and friendship of his parolees. He makes an appeal for Subject.

A letter written to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Chairman, Taylor County Parole Board, from Joseph G. Babich, Secretary, Governor's Office, Sacramento 14, California, dated June 26, 1953. Babich gives furthur instruction and explanation regarding an enclosed set of forms used in applying for executive clemency which were requested by Carswell for Subject A-9803.

An Inter-Departmental Communication Memo from the California State Prison at Folsom, Represa, California (Robert A. Heinze, Warden) by W. J. Ryan, Associate Warden, to Fred Finsley, Chief State Parole Officer, Sacramento, California dated February 26, 1951 (copy to T. N. Carswell). Ryan advises Finsley of a letter written by Subject 9803-A and approved by T. N. Carswell in which Subject requests the return of his U. S. Postal Notes. Ryan advises of the transfer of the notes to the Bureau of Paroles, therefore, he refers the letter to Finsley's office for attention and disposition.

A letter written to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Abilene, Texas, from Justin A. Kever, District Attorney, San Angelo, Texas, dated May 26, 1961. Kever acknowledges the receipt of the "note" from Carswell advising of his retirement as chairman of the Parole Board in Taylor County.

Davis advises of illnesses having prevented his travel to conference with Carswell but that he will travel as soon as he can before they launch their drive in February. The reverse side includes a list of names handwritten by [T. N. Carswell]; Capt. Robt. F. S. Barry, Sgt. James O. Stennett, Sgt. Arnold A. Nored, Actg. St. Sgt. Billie J. Hale.

Davis acknowledges his receipt of the letter from Carswell and confirms the plan to be at their regular meeting. He advises of more than 50 churches having committed to field days estimating they will get one hundred.

The letter is a form letter, and makes request for answers regarding the inquiry from T. N. Carswell on whether or not courses on the effects of alcohol are offered. At the bottom is a handwritten reply to Dean Mangun from Annie Mae Melton confirms assignments on the effects of alcohol within courses.

A letter written to Faculty Members Dr. LeVesconte, Miss [Lucille] Capt, and Miss [Annie Mae] Melton, from Vernon L. Mangun, Dean, dated March 20, 1942. A handwritten reply to Dean Mangun from A. LeVesconte confirms that the "effects of alcohol" are mentioned in several courses.

A letter written to Bishop Ivin Lee Holt, Dallas, Texas, from T. N. Carswell, Chairman 24th District United Texas Drys dated August 26, 1942. Carswell advises Holt of a letter that he is writing to the Baptist associations and expresses his desire to "get this matter before the Methodist people". He advises of the absence of effort or of a program save a temperance lesson from Christians on the harmful effects of beverage alcohol and of his belief that a such a course should be required in church supported schools.

A letter written to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Abilene, Texas, from Hugh R. Bumpas, Pastor, Tabernacle Baptist Church, Ennis, Texas, dated September 26, 1942. Bumpas informs Carswell of an enclosed copy of a resolution which passed unanimously at the annual meeting of the Ellis County Baptist Association. The resolution urges Baptist schools to include a required course of study dealing with the effects of beverage alcohol.
