Davis acknowledges his receipt of the letter from Carswell and expresses his appreciation for the check for the Judge Miller fee. He advises Carswell that the petitions will be "in the hands of our Friends" by February 1, will be subject to the poll tax list of 1942 and that they will not know who are qualified voters until after February 1. He advises of their need to meet before February.

A letter written to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Abilene, Texas, from Vernon L. Mangun, Dean, Mary Hardin-Baylor College (now the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor), Belton, Texas, dated March 26, 1942. Mangun advises that there are units within courses on the effects of alcohol. Typewritten on Mary Hardin-Baylor College letterhead bearing Weston's BLACKSTONE BOND watermark.

A letter written to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Abilene, Texas, from Jeff Davis, Executive Secretary, United Texas Drys, dated January 26, 1943. Davis describes a "hotel mixup" including the Grace Hotel, the Wooten Hotel, the Hilton Hotel and a Tourist Court when he was in Abilene and expresses his dismay at forgeting the proposed meeting with Carswell. He advises that they are sponsoring an anti-advertising bill which is being scouted by Senator George Moffett, that Representative John Connally has introduced a ten-mile bill like the one passed in 1918 that dried up the State and that they plan to get behind the Governor's curfew bill. Davis expresses the need for more Field Days assuring that the events will be more fruitful than in the past.

A letter written to Mr. T. N. Carswell, from Joseph T. Zottoli, Dorchester, Massachusetts, dated February 26, 1946. Zottoli declines the invitation to address a meeting in Abilene due to a full schedule until Fall.

A letter written to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Secretary, Lions Club, Abilene, Texas, from J. C. Deal, Angelo Furniture Company, Secretary, Lions Club, San Angelo, Texas, dated April 26, 1924. Deal confirms their endorsement of Lion Green of Abilene and introduces their delegate to the Paris Convention as Lion W. P. Barnes c/o Reed Shoe Co.

A letter written to Mr. T. N. Carswell, American Legion, Abilene, Texas, from Chief Justice Hughes (retired), by Wendell W. Mischler, Secretary, Washington, D. C., dated November 26, 1941. Mischler acknowledges the receipt by Chief Justice Hughes of the letter from Carswell requesting a definition of Americanism and advises that Hughes made it a rule to decline all alike requests citing the quantity he receives.

A letter addressed to Mr. Edward J. Meeman, Editor, The Press Scimitar, Memphis, Tennessee, from T. N. Carswell, dated February 26, 1942. Carswell requests a copy of the editorial written by Meeman, printed by The Press Scimitar on December 22, 1941, which was written in reply to the letter received by Meeman from Carswell requesting an answer to the question "What is Americanism?"

A letter addressed to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Abilene, Texas, from Lyndon B. Johnson, United States Senate, dated April 26, 1952. Johnson acknowledges his receipt of the letter from Carswell dated April 18, advises of the appointment of Judge McGranery as now pending and of public hearings scheduled for May 5. He expresses his appreciation for the encouraging comments from Carswell regarding his work promising to continue his efforts to eliminate waste.

A Western Union telegram sent to Hon. Tom Connally, U.S. Senate, Washington, D. C., from T. N. Carswell, Abilene, Texas, dated February 26, 1943. Carswell advises of the concern of parents of soldiers already dead and of sons now in the fighting zones, that they are understandably critical of a national do-nothing policy about strikes, slow downs and absenteeism and are asking if the Congress cannot act courageously and effectively when the very life of the nation is threatened, as it now is. The reverse side includes Western Union terms. "Hon. Sam Russell House of Rep Wash. D. C." is handwritten at the bottom of the page.

A letter written to Senator Tom Connally, Washington, D. C., from T. N. Carswell, dated January 26, 1946. Carswell requests that Connally use every ounce of his influence to kill the so-called FEPC Bill calling it "Carpet Bagger" Legislation seventy-five years out of date. "Labor leadership, however, seems to have assumed the role of the dictator, the idea of which is out of harmony with our democracy."

A letter written to Judge Sam Russell, House of Representatives, Washington, D. C., from T. N. Carswell, dated January 26, 1946. Carswell requests of Russell that his name be put on the mailing list to receive the Congressional Record and that Russell do all he can against the so-called FEPC Legislation advising of the name being a misnomer. He advises of the legislation being unfair to workers, "Carpet Bagger" legislation seventy-five years out of date and discloses his opinion regarding strikes.

A letter written to Mr. Carswell from Mrs. J. M. Radford and Annabel, dated February 26, 1943. Radford expresses her appreciation for the red and white carnations sent by Carswell. [Flowers sent to remember a party given on February 25, 1933 to celebrate "50 years of building Abilene" honoring J. M. Radford.] The reverse side includes a note from "Mother" [Byrdie Carswell] dated March 4. Byrdie advises that this card was forwarded to Carswell but was returned "torn and messed up", therefore, she is resending it in a new envelope.

A letter written to Mr. Carswell from Lucie K. Whitehead, San Antonio, Texas, dated February 26, 1958. Whitehead advises that she was afraid her telephone calls had bothered Carswell and assures him that she is not critical of him but was trying to understand their tax returns noting the "good deal of money" it might involve for which she should start making arrangements.

A letter written to T. N. Carswell from P. D. O'Brien, Pastor, First Baptist Church, Big Spring, Texas, dated July 26, 1961. O'Brien expresses his pleasure at having the occasion to meet and fellowship with Carswell even if only briefly all these years and reminisces about the "good days at old Simmons College". He expresses his pleasure in doing the favor [witnessing Mrs. Carswell's signature] and for the check which he put into the building fund "hoping it will yield dividends for all eternity".

The minutes of the May 26, 1945 meeting of The Greater Hardin-Simmons Committee. Judge J. C. Hunter served as President. Page two includes additional minutes of the Executive Committee which met on May 28, 1945. Hunter called the meeting to order. "He explained that the purpose of the meeting was to talk about the proposed plans for expansion of Hardin-Simmons University." Executive Committee members met afterwards regarding the contract drawn up by Mr. Carlton M. Sherwood, Executive Vice-President of Pierce, Hedrick and Sherwood and was read by Dr. R. N. Richardson.

A letter written to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Abilene, Texas from E. M. Collier, Administrator, Hendrick Memorial Hospital dated December 26, 1956. Collier advises of an attached receipt and expresses his appreciation for the contribution and years of service rendered to Hendrick Hospital by Carswell. The receipt is dated December 24, 1956 for donation received of Mr. T. N. Carswell to Hendrick Memorial Hospital, Abilene, Texas and signed by C. H. Denning, Cashier.

The letter contains a notification by Collier of a meeting of the Board of Trustees which has been called by Mr. Haynes. Dinner will be served.
