Caption: "The veteran fireman had not been asleep very long when he was jarred awake by his telephone to be told that the Davidson-Case Lumber Co., 24 W Reno, was burning. It was into his clothes, down the pole and into his red car for the retiring fireman. "When we turned the corner on to Reno, I could tell it was the old lumber yard and I knew it had been cleared out under urban renewal," Chief Newberry said Friday. One Alarm "The old buildings were due to be torn down anyway, so instead of sounding a second alarm as we would ordinarily do for this type of fire, I just set my companies and contained the fire. "We set up curtains of water (by sending two streams to meet the middle) and concentrated on saving surrounding buildings."
