He expresses his appreciation for the encouraging comments from Carswell regarding his work promising to continue his efforts to eliminate waste.

Whitehead advises that she was afraid her telephone calls had bothered Carswell and assures him that she is not critical of him but was trying to understand their tax returns noting the "good deal of money" it might involve for which she should start making arrangements.

Collier advises of an attached receipt and expresses his appreciation for the contribution and years of service rendered to Hendrick Hospital by Carswell. The receipt is dated December 24, 1956 for donation received of Mr. T. N. Carswell to Hendrick Memorial Hospital, Abilene, Texas and signed by C. H. Denning, Cashier.

A letter addressed to Hon. Jack Ross, Parole and Probation Compact Administrator, Austin, Texas, from G. R. Klopfenstein, Chief (by R. N. McMichael, Placement Supervisor), Bureau of Probation and Parole, Columbus 15, Ohio, dated October 26, 1954. McMichael acknowledges receipt of the pre-parole investigation report regarding Inmate 95040 OP and advises of his pending release noting he has be instructed to report to Mr. T. N. Carswell.

A letter written to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Chairman, Taylor County Parole Board, from Vincent O'Leary, Director, Division of Parole Supervision, by John W. Walton, Supervisor, Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles, dated March 26, 1958. Walton apologizes to Carswell for the error in their letter regarding the reporting intervals required of Subject No. Calif. 17095. In addition to reporting in person every six months he requests that Subject make a written report each month.

A letter addressed to the Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles, from T. N. Carswell, Chairman, Taylor County Voluntary Parole Board, dated September 26, 1958. Carswell gives to the Board his recommendation for Subject to file an application for a full pardon and restoration.

A letter addressed to Mr. T. N. Carswell, from Mrs. Hattie Breeding, Dallas, Texas, dated October 26, 1953. Breeding advises of an enclosed $20.00 payment expressing her appreciation to Carswell for being so nice.

A letter written to Mr. R. N. McMichael, Placement Supervisor, Ohio Penitentiary, from Richard H. Brooks, M. D., Medical Director, James Hospital, dated August 26, 1954. Brooks advises McMichael that the medical records of Inmate No. 95040 have been reviewed and has retained the "No Occupational Restrictions" classification given shortly after arrival at the penitentiary.

A letter written to Senator Ratliff, from T. N. Carswell, dated January 26, 1957. Carswell expresses his appreciation to Ratliff for providing the Probation literature as requested and offers his views on the "Right to Work" laws, the issue of more local and less state and national government and the membership of government employees in unions. He advises that the next Texas senator should be elected by Texans and touches on the segregation question for Texas.

A letter addressed to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Abilene, Texas, from David W. Ratliff, The Senate of the State of Texas, Austin, dated May 26, 1959. Ratliff expresses his appreciation for the letter from Carswell regarding taxes, acknowledges the difficulty of the entire financial program and advises that Representative Atwell is considering introducing a resolution to provide a joint committee such as Carswell suggests.

Russell acknowledges his receipt of and expresses his appreciation for Carswell's letter regarding the Landrum-Griffin Labor Reform bill and H. The reverse side includes a letter addressed to Sir--Mr. H. S. Davis, Internal Revenue Office, Dallas, Texas from Carswell Travel Agency, Wooten Hotel Lobby, By T. N. Carswell, Partner dated July 2, 1952. Carswell refers to the letter from Davis dated June 26, 1952 and advises Davis regarding the work rendered by Mrs. Gay in the Agency thus the method of payment of her salary in regards to her tax return.
