Carswell expresses his enjoyment while she and Mother were in Abilene, that it was hard to see her leave but knows it is best for her. He compares home without her there to a "small unit of Goldsmith's 'Deserted Village'". He advises of his immediate travel plans and notes that when he travels to New Orleans if he goes to Austin he will at least call.
