Photograph used for a story in the Oklahoma City Times newspaper. Caption: "Running water in the home is something most city dwellers take for granted. But the process of getting it there is more involved than turning on a faucet. Oklahoma City water users are served by two lakes, 195 wells used for emergency in dry weather, two water treatment plants, about 300 workers who keep the system operating and see that the bills are paid, pumping stations, storage tanks and more than 1,000 miles of water mains through which the vital product flows from plant to home or industry...............Frank Taylor, filtration engineer with the city water department, empasizes that chemicals are added to the water to take other unwanted or unhealthy substances out. Chlorine is used to sterilize the water and reduce taste and odor. Lime is added to help soften the water and alum to help settle suspended matter. Every pound of chemicals added to the water removes 2 1/2 pounds of dissolved solids, Taylor said......Oklahoma City's two lakes have a capacity of about 90,000 acre feet of water. An acre foot is the amount of water it takes to cover one acre to a depth of one …

"Enemy" bombers will roar over Oklahoma during the night, to be met with supersonic jets, loaded and ready with armed "mighty mouse" rockets. It will be another "alert" test of the ability of American defenses to meet an attack......The "mighty mouse" which would be ready for use, is a 2.75-inche rocket, but does not carry a guidance system for direction of flight...It is used on the F-86L. and is secondary arnament on the F-102."

Photograph used for a story in the Oklahoma City Times newspaper. Caption: "Living patterns of many Oklahoma Cityans may be undergoing a change. At least that's the hope of the apartment house business which is counting on a sweeping new trend in modern living to take hold. Apartment House investors are setting the stage with scores of luxury developments where two bathys, maid service, swimming pools and $300-per-month rent bills are not too common. The apartment building business has been booming for about two years in the northwest part of the city after what Paul Clowers, city planning director, describes as a "long drouth" in apartment construction...Average cost per unit is $9,410. Clowers estimates that units costing $9,000 or more will rent from $150 up a month. Of the more than 700 units for which permits have been issued, 286 would fall in this catagory......Clowers said the sudden boom is apartments is due to the fact that OKlahoma City went for many years with no apartments being built and is now catching up with other cities. If there weren't an avaliable market for such apartments, he said, builders would have trouble in obtaining financing."

Fifty years ago, Oklahoma had 14 cities with 5,000 or more population. The top 10 in 1910 ranged in population from Sapulpa's 8,283 to Oklahoma City's 64,205. Today, the state has 52 cities with more than 5,000 population; the top 10 range from Shawnee's 24,218 to Oklahoma City's 317,644. The six census reports during the past half century show the "top 10" circle to be mostly a game of musical chairs; this year the game has one new player."
