Guar Trial Planting
Photograph of Bill Storm, County Agent, and Ted Lahman, WUC, examine a trial planting of Guar. Six to eight pounds of seed planted per acre, in 36 inch rows. A good stand was received and indications are that a good seed harvest will be made. However, some drought damage was present. Guar shows promise as a catch crop in this area of Oklahoma. More observations are needed to see if stubble will control wind erosion and if sub-soil moisture is lowered to the point of affecting the following year's crop.

Photograph of a windbreqak and post lot of Black Locust trees planted in 1937. Trees have been cultivated and have attained an excellent growth. Owner first cooperated with the Checotah Camp who furnished labor to set out the trees and he is now a cooperator and member of the Soil Conservation District Board of Supervisors.

Watershed Benefits
Photograph of watershed benefits. Site No. 2, Colbert Creek. Seven boats were unloaded on this day, and it is not unusual to see 8 to 10 on weekends. Fifty people were enjoying the recreational benefits on this particular day. Good fishing is enjoyed during week days, when skiing activities slow down. Forty-six surface acres are impounded behind this structure. The operator of the farm charges $1.00 per car. He uses the honor system for depositing money in box when entering lake area.
