[Colonia Díaz - Chihuahua, Mexico]

The postcard caption reads: 'U.S. Soldiers resting under shade trees at Colonia Díaz'. This group of U.S. Soldiers is part of the American Punitive Expedition or Mexican Expedition who were sent into Mexico to confront and/or capture Mexican Revolutionary Francisco "Pancho" Villa. The Punitive Expedition into Mexico was led by Brigadier General John J. Pershing. The Punitive Expedition into Mexico went on from March 14, 1916 to around February 7, 1917. Colonia Díaz itself was the first permanent Mormon colony in Mexico, located along the Casas Grandes River, in the state of Chihuahua, Mexico. Back of the postcard: 4/24/16 'My Dear G M - Everything fine here. Glad you are well. Try and enjoy yourself. Will write soon. Doing business! Walter'. Addressed to: G.M. Horne, Box 365, Portland, Maine. This postcard has a 1912 1c Washington, green, single line watermark stamp.

Postcard from Rose Chamberlin to Junia Roberts Osterhout. The front has three photos stacked vertically. The one on top has buildings in the plains and is a general view of Fort Concho. The second one is the officers' quarters and has a row of stone houses with a road out in front. All the houses have slanted roofs and chimneys. At the start of the road is a fence with an open gate. The bottom one is the soldiers' quarters and has a row of roofs held up by wooden columns, attached to a stone building. On the bottom of the front and the back, Rose wrote about a storm that had passed through her area.

Postcard from J. P. Eagan to George Pendexter describing the vehicle in the reverse-side picture; according to Eagan the vehicle and crew are apart of the #2 Salvage Corps in St. Louis. The photograph shows a fireman sitting on top of the horse-drawn fire wagon with an alarm bell behind him and a ladder in the bed. This wagon takes too horses to pull it and it has an inscription on the side that reads "Salvage Corps No. 2."
