This design "relates to car-couplings; and it has for its object to provide improved devices whereby the cars may be automatically coupled; and further, to provide improved devices for this purpose which shall be simple in construction and thoroughly effective in operation" (10-16).

Patent for a new and improved steam-engine. This design "relates to certain improvements in compound steam-engines; and it has for its objects to lessen friction and provide for the effective working of such engines" (lines 8-11).

This design consists "[i]n a post-hole auger, the combination, with the tool-guiding uprights and their revolving gearing, of the tool-carrying pinion, with the tool-securing contrivance fastened to its under side between said guiding-uprights, said pinion being adapted to revolve with said guiding-uprights, and the platform with its lowering screw or screws geared with the tool-carrying pinion" (lines 74-82).

This design consists "[i]n a baling-box, the bottom board having cleats and end board and fixed standards that reach above the end board in combination with the hinged side boards and end board hinged to [another] board, [those] boards being provided with cleats that reach beyond the edges of the boards to receive the loops" (lines 87-94).
