Car Coupling.

Patent for a new and improved coupling for railroad cars. This design "is to provide means for setting and supporting the pin and link of the ordinary car-coupler, so that cars will be automatically coupled when brought together; and it consists in a frame or holder for the coupling-pin and a frame or holder for the coupling-link" (lines 11-17).

This design consists in "a draw-head provided with a recess having an enlargement at its central portion, a series of vertical jaws on each side of said enlarged portion of the recess pivotally mounted at their lower end in the draw-head, springs connecting each jaw with its corresponding jaw in the opposite series, and means for opening the jaws" (lines 13-20).

This design "is to provide the trace-carrier with a locking-brace, which is held in a closed position by the chain, which prevents all possibility of the chain from becoming detached from the carrier while in use" (lines 16-20). To this end, it consists, "with the body having a strap-fastener and an outwardly and upwardly extending hook, of a locking-plate, which is hinged at its upper end to the upper portion of the body, and its lower end provided with an inner perforated projection through which the said hook passes, and a shorter projection" (lines 78-85).

Patent for a new and improved washing-machine. This design is "to provide a machine having an oscillating and revolving rubber, means for securing the rubber to the operating-shaft, and to provide bearings for said shaft which may be adjusted to compensate for any wear of parts. A further object is to provide adjustable legs, whereby one side of the machine may be raised or lowered, thus decreasing or increasing the pressure of the rubber upon the articles being washed" (lines 17-27).
